As per the title, it feels like a huge time waster to go back to their stations when most of the things I'm talking to my contacts about could be done over the phone. I think the only run I maxed out a contact was one in which my homebase had one so I was constantly in touch with it. Ideally there would be no restrictions on this but if there were to be any maybe restrict the ability to contact them to being near a comms link or something? You know, those areas in which you get news about bounties and such? If so I just hope that'd work for player star systems as well.

I know how little this means for a vanilla suggestion, but I currently use the Stellar Networks mod by Jaghaimo. It has contact management (including distance calls), a search function to help find ships, weapons, officers, etc etc. Comes in pretty handy.

Lately, I only bother with contacts to trigger the Omega bounty or to fight Derelict bounties to take their (Rampart) hulls if I have Automated Ships.

How would the missions where you buy a cheap ship, deliver supplies to somewhere else, deliver a dead drop, deploy a spysat and smuggle items work ? Its not like they can just teleport those things to your fleet from light years away.

In that way, isn't calling a remote captain to do the delivery sounds reasonable? Since most delivery mission from contacts don't offer you the goods and you need to purchase it on your own. It's a stellar era, so I think communicating somewhere with a comm. relay is enough to explain this.

This give me a thought that maybe the mission from the contacts can be marked legal or illegal. For the legal part, feel free to communicate through the lines, you are just talkibg about a business; for the illegal(or something seem to require dedacted, like deploying spy sats.), a face to face meeting is required.

P.S It would be great to know that some ships are on sale, come on, it's a sale. Advertising it to the potential customers is quite reasonable. If I know someone is putting a ship I like on sale, paying it first remotely and later grab the ship on storage dock is quite fancinating to me.

That is why i specified only the missions that do give you something.

For missions that do give you something, similar method can be used here. Calling for a captain for the delivery-the captain come and pick up the stuff-delivery. It's just the same as what you do today for transporting something. You do not just sit at a table waiting for a truck driver to get to you, right? The game has strorage on every site, it can be properly used here.
