Re Onslaught builds, try Light Autocannon (not dual since they are actually bad, the 4OP one) on ALL of the small mounts and front facing medium mounts + IPDAI + Ballistic Rangefinder + elite point defense on your character or officer for a battery of 11 LACs for 1100 kinetic DPS with great efficiency, low cost and bonus 400 range over the base 700! Dakkadakkadakka. Pair it with Hephaestus and it is actually an incredibly powerful and fun build (in practice you will want HMG on the very front medium mounts though).

Ballistic Rangefinder does not work on PD weapons.  Use either Ballistic Rangefinder or IPDAI+ePD, not both (if using the latter solely for more shot range).  On capitals, Ballistic Rangefinder gives more range than IPDAI+ePD, but having IPDAI will block Ballistic Rangefinder for small ballistics.

A possible weakness with small weapons on Onslaught is they are easier to get knocked out than the large weapons that sit further back.

If using ePD and enough recoil reduction (i.e., have both Armored Mounts and Gunnery Implants) to choke the spread enough, try Devastators for the large HE assault weapon.  +200 range lets many of the shots have range close to 900 range heavy weapons, but it is much more efficient than HAG.

Oh, interesting! Definitely should have tested if they both work. In that case you should probably only go for IPDAI since you will also be using these small guns for your point defense.

I in fact played with this build a while back, again for Remnant farming (no surprises here). Here is how the build ended up, it seems like I ended up using light dual machineguns but a better build would probably be remove BRF then and add HMGs.

This is an absolute monster build, I realize 3 Hephaestus are suboptimal for fighting a single target but really what this is supposed to do is dive into a Remnant fleet and just chew up the smaller ships in all directions simultaneously which it does more effectively than basically any non-redacted ship, much as I'm loath to admit it as I usually prefer the Conquest. And of course nukes Radiants and stations with 4x PCL.

I'm a big fan of my knife fighting onslaught covered in duel and heavy machine guns.

Stick a couple reaper torpedo launchers on there and it'll shred anything that is stupid enough to get too close!

On my Onslaught I always use the same thing:

1 Mjolnir, 2 HVDs, 1 Dual Flak, everything else medium as Single Flak, 2 Devastators, 4 Annihilator Pods.

The AI does a VERY good job at piloting it with heavy armour, auxiliary thrusters, and ITU. Just gets the job done.

Edit: Nothing in small slots.

I actually love the vigilance but the trick to them is that you have to use them in organized packs of 3. One lead vigilance with heavy machine gun and sabot pod, and two escorts with harpoons(one with another hmg, and one with autocannon.)

1v1 it will lose to any other frigate, but 3v3(or more) and they will eat your enemies alive. They also can erase destroyers with ease.

I'm surprised that works.  You'll probably have better options in the the new update, too.  The DEMs are going to be good pressure weapons.

Currently, I keep a vigilance with max dmods around to flood the area around my carriers with pilums.

I'm a bit worried the ai changes regarding ships equipped with only pd and missiles will cause my vigilance pack to float around and do nothing, but we'll see.

I think a lot of people think about this ship wrong, if you want to give them a shot the rules for success are as follows:

1.) You always need three.
2.) Two are always set to escort one.
3.) Think of the trio as a single six slot ship and fit it to a specific role.

Another example is my anti cruiser fit. Lead ship and one escort get hmg and sabots, the third gets mauler and the medium reaper tube. When they engage the target ship it's going to have 8 sabots incoming which will almost always either overload or get flux high enough that the reaper ship will launch a pair of torpedos.

Hyperion, because I'm experienced enough with this game to make it work with 10 credits and three supplies to my name. It's a lot worse after this update since safety overrides is no longer an option, but I can still solo around 50 DP of pirates with a three d-mod Hyperion still.

So, now given the update we should reconsider our options as to what our favorite ships really are. I still love the Eradicator but I am REALLY enjoying messing around with my Executor I "acquired" from the Syndies. Which reminds me, I need to murder them more for guns.

I'm kinda jealous cause I'll never be able to pilot this ship properly. :/

It needs five skills in the combat tree to maximize its usefulness. Most importantly system expertise for the reduced teleport cooldown and increased teleport distance. Only non SO builds work on this patch as Alex added Delicate Machinery, which results in SO having too little combat time to be useful. My current build is built in expanded mags, mining blaster, thumper, and ion pulser. Still working on the finer details.

In terms of combat, separate the enemy fleet by getting faster ships to chase you. Once separated focus either the faster ships or slower ships using the teleport to position yourself. Carriers are priority number one as they are the biggest threat.

Have to agree with the OP, the Scarab is also my go-to ship. I remember watching a youtube video a few years back where a player used a bunch of SO Scarabs to farm redacted fleets so I tried it out and since then I've always used it in my fleets.

When it got nerfed from 60 DP to 55 a few updates ago it hurt a little, but it's still strong enough to warrant having 10 of them in my fleet. Could probably further optimise it by adding / replacing hullmods but I'm lazy and it already shreds redacted as it stands now.

Depends a bit on if the A.I. messes up its attack run. Temporal shell costs flux to activate, if the A.I. messes up and is near max flux within enemy range it will be unable to activate its system. The A.I. will not drop shields for long enough to activate the system, leading to scarabs frequently getting popped due to them getting flux locked. It's the entire reason I stopped using them, and instead focused on either aggressive Hyperion builds, or long range tempest/TT brawler builds when it comes to late game high tech frigates.
