Author Topic: Game consistently freezes just after battle begins, but never during simulation  (Read 334 times)

Hey everyone!

So I played the (more or less) vanilla game to death; I had a really good game going with a highly refined fleet and didn't want to end it, but recently decided it was finally time to have as much fun as everyone else is having by using some of the awesome mods on here.

I spent a bit of time putting together a nice list of mods that felt essential along with a number of factions. Everything worked fine for quite a while, but now I'm running into memory leak messages shortly after I load up a game. I've tried pretty much everything that can be found on Discord, google and on the forums to rectify them; I've switched to Jre8, tried all of the G1GC options, even learned about the actual Java commands and played around with them myself to no result. I can seemingly ignore these messages and continue flying around space as it's often only 2 instances that are detected and I've read that 2 is probably okay with Jre8. When it gets to 3 or 4 I can still keep going and nothing bad ever happens except for some slower saves which resolve after a restart, so I'm not even really sure that the memory leak issue is related to the combat crashing issue I'm now facing.

Basically any time I engage in combat in the campaign, the game locks up rather quickly after the fight begins. I've tried with different fleets comprised of differing faction mods and it always happens. The first time I encountered this problem was fighting a ziggurat phase ship, so not even a big battle considering my fleet is still only small to medium in size.

I've noticed however that the freeze never happens during a simulation no matter now big I make it, using all of the ships I would use in a normal battle. This got me wondering if this could potentially help narrow down the problem?

Here's the Windows event viewer log entry as I've seen it requested in other threads, though I don't think it helps much.

The starsector.log literally never shows anything amiss and no error messages.

Windows 10, GTX1070 8GB, 16GB Ram, latest drivers. No antivirus and nothing like MSI Afterburner or recording software running the background. The game is also on a high speed SSD.

Wow, yep that definitely seems to have fixed it! I had stressed for so long under the assumption I was just asking the game to do too much, or some setting wasn't quite right. I didn't consider it might have been a bug with a mod itself.
