It is?  Doesn't the first tri-tach supply fleet always bring three of them?

In my game, Tri-Tachyon station has like 40 Plasma Cannons.

Sounds like bad luck.  :/  HIL is good, too. Just a different role. More annoyance than outright destruction.

Autopulse is amazing, too since you can fire that thing forever.

Having just tried it a lot, I'm really not enjoying the Apogee that much. I find myself preferring the Venture for the flight deck, sustained missile damage, insane toughness, and flak coverage. It just doesn't have the same "solo power" as the Venture, and gets overwhelmed by fighters and missiles a lot easier.

I'm finding that the Apogee has much more staying power than the Venture, mainly due to the fact that the shields rarely go down. I'm set up with Tachyon Lance, Phase Beams, and burst PD...

I'll have to try that. I do love the plasma cannon.

But it's damn rare to find :-\
I found 30 at the tri tach station C:
I can't believe how insanely hard to kill my apogee is:
Tachyon lance, 2x antimatter blaster, 2x PD laser, 2x heavy blaster, 1x atropos torpedo rack. No large missile mount needed for me. Snipes insanely well. 29 capacitors, 10 vents and resistant flux conduits later and this thing with the shield up is like an onslaught if it's armour recharged. I'm firing everything, with my shields up and being shot at, and I struggle to go over 4000 flux. Yes, it's quite slow, but I've got my Hammerhead, Brawler, Wolf and about 6x fighter wings (3x warthogs, 3x thunders) to deal with that.
