Coronal Hypershunt guardians early
« on: July 30, 2022, 05:51:48 PM »

I want to find and kill the guardians ASAP so that I can play around with their weapons during my playthrough(rather than leaving them until the end when it would be easy with a large, pimped out fleet but then there would be nothing left to do anyway).

What would be good early accessible fleet compositions for this?

I would say there is no early-game option to do these. They're pretty much final boss tier, harder than Remnants. Even with a strong fleet that happens to have some smaller ships in there, be prepared to lose them all. In my last game I tried for the hell of it to bring some shield-tanked Apogees into the fight and saw them dying fast. That should tell you enough. I would do these with several capitals, ideally a pair of Paragons or some such. Only capitals can successfuly tank them, and the enemies are fast enough to pick their own targets.

I would say pick out cruisers with squalls and spam as many as possible with support doctrine. That's the easiest I can think of, although I hear you can cheese them with an afflictor by sitting in between them and making them shoot each other.

Two paragons can win alone, although it's much more reliable if you deploy additional stuff to clean up the second phase. For normal shielded ships, I find anything short of a very tanky capital ship just evaporates if it has to engage the dorito 1v1.

Your best bet is probably to spam squalls and a few Ion beams to try and lock them down at range and avoid fighting them up close.

You could also try to get ziggaraut which might be easier to do early, and then try to solo the doritos with zigg.

Maybe you could cheese them with afflictors too, but I don't play that way so I don't know if it's possible. I don't think the AI would shoot itself much though, you would be aiming to bypass shields with phase speed and assassinate them with anti-matter blasters. The fighters would probably murder afflictors though so I doubt that would work.

Pardon me if I'm wrong, but don't the [REDACTED] weapons spawn in weapon caches in red [REDACTED] systems, too? If so, then it could be easier to get them this way rather than try to down the doritos. Though there wouldn't probably be as many and OP could probably be screwed by RNG more than by the fight loot.

Getting Ziggurat early sounds like the way to go.

Incorrect. The only sources of omega weapons are the Tessaracts, Ziggurat and that one hidden cache in alpha site.

There's only the one in the, umm, "special" system. It's nice way to access to some cool stuff early on. Unfortunately, the cache is pretty small so you're not guaranteed to get what you want AND you can't get any large weapons.

Somebody beat the Tesseracts with only 2 Onslaught (XIV), so if you get the neural link skill, a bunch of personal skills, and somehow scrounge two Onslaughts, you could pull it off fairly early.

My 1st playthrough so I 'm not sure how "early" this is, but I trashed both corona shunts as well as Ziggurat with flock of about 25 Brawler (LP)s and 2 Odysseys as PD platforms. No flexing, but comparing to Remnant fleets all these fights were walk in the park.

  • Brawler(LP): Increased deployment cost to 6 (was: 5)
I may be joking here but at the same time, why does it cost the same? Other variants that have superior firepower cost more than the others (Eradicator for example). And it's not like it loses anything by not having a mobility system like its brethren since it has built-in SO. Sorry to everyone who enjoyed these little guys if my joke becomes true.

Having strong ships is good but one needs good officers too I feel, which is why they are so hard. You need a specialized fleet with officers built specifically for their ships.

There are several strategies, including swarming with frigates, though You pretty much need to bring a few cruisers and capitals with a handful of smaller specialist ships. Hyperion is nice for SO and mounting Omega weapons. Monitor is an excellent defensive frigate to keep them occupied or body block for the weaker cruisers. You will need a bit of everything though, cause the Omega enemy just spawns new ships to counter whatever killed it. Omega fights are made much easier in the hands of skilled player piloting though.

Honestly, yeah, this would be a good balance change. 7 (a 40% increase) is too much imo, but 20% would bring them more in line. AAF is a major upgrade and as you pointed out other ships have more DP from it, free SO is arguably an even bigger upgrade, and for players the ill advised modifications is a fairly cheap restore away.
