Mapping the Timeline of Starsector
« on: May 07, 2022, 02:18:47 PM »

In a lore fueled binge, been working on a supplemental timeline of Starsector for the wiki, using in-game lore in combination with A True and Accurate History of the Persean Sector.

Timeline:
starsector.fandom.com/wiki/Timeline

For those that have read A True and Accurate History of the Persean Sector, there's not a whole lot new. I tried to add Domain era history parsed from various ship descriptions and in-game events, but couldn't find hard dates for anything pre-collapse (Domain probes existing for possibly 1000's of cycles, although that's unreliable) so the Domain sections is light on events and heavy on tech. I've avoided using The State of Affairs lore, as that's been retconned.

If you have hard dates that I missed, feel free to contribute to wiki or reply here and I will add it. I'm sure there's more out there!

If you have a speculated date with clear evidence, please cite the explanation in the references list, and use "pre", "post", or "circa" for approximately.

For example, I dated the recapture League's recapture of Mairaath to "post c+89". The Hegemony lost control of the planet and the League owns it in the present day. It's recapture would have had to happen after the League formed in c+83, and the only directly referenced war between the League and Hegemony happened during the first AI war in c+89, so it seems reasonable to date the event to after then as the earliest possible point.

Hoping links to other parts of the wiki will help grounding the history with the map, along with extra visuals to help with connecting the main story to the game's history.

I think the most interesting jigsaw find was that the Warlord Leonis mop-up most likely happened during the First AI War. It was shortly after the League formed and at a time when the League and Church would have been war. Honestly pretty minor in grand scheme, and could have happened much later, but seems align with given information.

And just for fun, here's some graphs of the lifespan of factions:

The Luddic Path has been dated before the Church as it was one of the sects that never joined in the larger Church and existed before the Church formation. Tri-Tachyon has persisted contiguously from before the Domain to the present. The Hegemony and League have defined start dates. This really shows how young the Diktat is in comparison to the other factions.

This one is a graph of the various wars fought before the present day. Leonis campaign does not have a hard start, although it is known it was going on in cycle 47. The Maysura war happened within the span of c+82, so is invisible on the graph. I've backdated Loke's campaign to 155, although A True and Accurate History of the Persean Sector gives the date "circa 160's" (only date with 's). Considering the war ended in 160, it seems likely it started in at least the late 150's considering the power of his fleet.

If lore combing interests you, I also did one on population of the sector a while back:

I suppose this makes it clear that the Diktat are just a minor faction and that in turn explains why the Lion's Guard are not powerful. Diktat just isn't meant to be a big player, at least in regards to combat.

Thanks! I just hope the Hegemony doesn't decide to REDACT any of it!

I'll be honest, half the reason I made this was to flex on Diktat apologists. I've been wanting to make a long form rebuttal to a lot of the Diktat myths after the last blog post.
