For my current playthrough, since im using high tech, ive worked two militarized mercuries into my fleet in order to hit the 240 fleet cap for skills. Gave them unstable injectors to zoom around the field and I mostly use them as PD ships or to take objectives since they are the fastest ships in the fleet, and being like 6-10k a pop means they are fairly disposable if you need cannon fodder without cutting into your wallet too much.
