Antimatter should do HE damage
« on: January 05, 2022, 12:45:59 PM »

Something that's been bugging at me for a while:
Anti-matter is the explosive to end all explosives.

So why are the two weapons that boil down to "hit it with antimatter so it explodes" both weapons that deal energy damage? (Other than for gameplay reasons.)

My headcanon is that shields can't modulate to deal with antimatter weaponry, so no reduction in damage against it at the shield level. Past that, I think of it as sort of reaching any matter (armor/hull) and just cancelling out against it, a pure silent matter deletion. Which goes against matter/anti-matter reactions as I've had them explained to me, sure, but it works for the 100% damage to both as an "energy" weapon for me. Realism vs. gameplay?

I guess it could be something other than the "energy" type, but it seems sort of superfluous to add another 100% against all defenses weapon type.

Why energy damage? Because it blows up shields, too! :P
