Refit, blueprints, you own colony
« on: May 28, 2021, 07:31:05 PM »

So i had had the idea of refitting my ships now that i have heavy industry. i had thought if i went there and chose to refit my ships i could buy (read, manufacture) the weapons i learned the blueprints for. Seemed the simplest way to choose the best of what i had available for my ships. however, this does not appear to be how it works. i dont have any option to buy/build the weapons i can build directly from the refit screen. is there another way of doing this? or am i pretty much resigned to having to actually make every weapon i have and store em to have em available?

In the command tab you can use your blueprints to create weapons and ships from blueprints you have learned. It takes a until the first day of the next month  and you have a limit based on how much heavy industry you own. If you go over the limit you it will take more months to finish. You also still have to pay a cost as well.

ye, i know i can do that. is what i was trying to avoid. i had thought, fool me, that refitting a ship at a planet with heavy industry would let me directly use my designs.

might be an idea for a mod.

I'd agree. Something like : The refit screen keeps track of the total credit cost of the refit and deducts it from the end of the month. Just like taking your colony supplies.

that would be great. better than my own idea of having the ship be unusable for the month XD

Unfortunately that would be very exploitable. You could refit your ship using weapons you have designs for, then strip the weapons off and then repeat the process. Giving you instant-production access to your weapons.

my original idea had been to make it so ye needed to dock yer ships for the month, but since that would likley be hard to impiment a simpler compromise may be to just make sure produced weapons take away from your production cap... perhaps even at a much higher cost.

If it only used production capability that is unused for the current month then you'd still only get the same number of things per month.
Over the long run this wouldn't increase your actual production rate, so I wouldn't really consider it much of an exploit.
