Two questions, completely unrelated
« on: May 17, 2021, 02:50:14 PM »

1. Are nebulas completely non viable colonies locations now given the changes in profitability? Hazard ratings seem back breaking and they all have Darkness & Extreme cold for +100% on every world.
2. What is the function of a Vigilance frigate in a fleet? Please include a build if you got something that works, they always seem energy starved no matter what I use.

1. Basically. You could install Fusion Lamps to get rid of both of those conditions at the cost of 10 Volatiles demand and +4 Pather interest, but in terms of pure profitability - short or long term - that is definitely not worth it.

2. Support. A Vigilance that's by itself is a sitting duck, you want them to follow other ships and deliver the gifts of a medium missile slot to those who need to die horribly. Medium energy can be either support or PD, depending on how you build it.

If I want to avoid Pather cells, lamps are a trap.  Even though the lamp was an attempt to make dark colonies viable, it fails at that purpose.

I guess it may be useful for those who want (to try) to colonize the whole sector and abuse alpha cores.

10 Volatiles demand seems a tad insane since that's like 2 colonies worth of production.

It's a shame about the Vigilance, it's kinda cool but oh well.

Vigiliance is like a mini-Gryphon thats overpriced by a few DP. Its not awful with a missile of choice + Ion Beam, but its not really worth it either. It needs to stay around larger ships to survive because its a popcorn snack for high performance frigates.

Two colonies that supply 5 volatiles each will only supply up to 5 volatiles, not 10. To supply 10 volatiles you need a single colony that produces 10 volatiles - which is doable, albeit not easy - and make sure there's enough access on both sides to export/import the lot. Although the penalty for not supplying enough volatiles is, IIRC, only +5% hazard rating per unit of volatile that's not getting supplied, so at -5 you're getting +25% hazard rating from an item that still removes the full +100% from Darkness and Extreme Cold. Not perfect, but still a net profit if you can deal with the +4 pather interest.
