AI fleet that can win against REDACTED?
« on: May 01, 2021, 08:17:23 AM »

Hi, I'm trying to find a fleet composition with which the AI (so no flying a ship yourself) can reliably defeat double or triple

without any losses. Of course triple S-mods are a necessity. I tried Phase fleets, best capitals with support, carrier fleets, etc. However, all either fail against the best REDACTED fleets or incur at least moderate losses. Does anyone have a fleet composition that can do this reliably? Thanks in advance.

some frigates with phase lances and 150+ speed and decent survivability
some cruisers with advanced optics and tachyon lances and decent speed to stay at range

if you have capture points on the tacmap set them all to capture, captured points causes the enemy AI to break its formation up and string itself out across the map making it way easier to isolate and kill stragglers with your phase lances frigates

For sure there's a way to beat those fleets... but without losts? Thats a pretty high goal

Not sure about fleet composition, but I think it could highly depend on if you can still issue fleet orders. Main one would be to set avoid to the big bads until the small accompanying scrap on the sides can be cleared out. I've found that they can be quite distracting if you're trying to focus down the main REDACTED.
Bonus points if you can get one or two of the main targets to follow a ship on a wild goose chase, to also help focusing down of one (has sometimes happened to me).
Escort commands for sub-groups of roving 2-3 ships, keeping some cohesion for yourself so they can't be focused down themselves.

Other than that, I'll lob out some ideas for ships to include (not saying it's best). Eagles for center firepower, 2/1 autocannons/mortar or hvd/maulers and gravitons. Could include Monitors as tankers, seemed useful against other REDACTED out there. Some faster ships for the flanks and clean up... Medusas, Tempests? Carriers like Mora/Heron seems like an easy addition to put more pressure on the REDACTED's shields. But you need something to punch through the armor too when the shields drop, when it vents. Otherwise you'll be dealing with a much longer timeframe to kill one, and more time for the other one or two to do some serious damage. Daggers as bombers are my favorite, but not sure for suitability in tactics here.

There's that gap at the back of the shields (270 degrees) that can be exploited if you have enough surround, but dangerous if you're dealing with two or three at a time.

Fun to think about. I'm sure it can be done.

EDIT: Oh nevermind. It's AI control and no losses. I doubt that possible consistently. Why would you even want that?

I'm not sure why you don't want to take any losses. Seems like an unreasonable constraint to me, for fights which already have no significant reward.

Nevertheless my method usually takes no losses described here. Logically you should avoid smaller ships as they have a tendency to get oneshot.

I've given it a go using Fleet Tester, and have had some success with it. Two REDACTED seems fine, with the few times I ran through it, it didn't appear to have any issues. Mostly one got focused down, ionized, surrounded, and then blown up by a wave of tridents. Monitors did well to absorb and assist. The other usually got distracted, and didn't manage to get anything done before the rest of the fleet showed up. No AI commands given, they did whichever.

Here's some images, if you want to see a few action shots.

However, three REDACTED seems to be quite difficult to surmount with this fleet. Even with good luck (one phasing into the center of the fleet), squashing it relatively quickly, the other two would squish an eagle, or another ship. The good luck was about 30% or so of the time, so not bad, but hard to luck the rest of it.

I chose one of each of the variants available for the enemy. One variant has full tachyons, the other locusts, paladin PD, autopulse lasers. I think the tachyons are probably more dangerous, so included two of the tachyons for the three trial.

I don't count this as a particularly great victory, as it is really 180 dp vs 80 dp (120 for second run). There are pluses and minuses to doing it this way as well. No hullmods, no officers, no skills to help your fleet at all. No supporting fleet for the enemy either, so that could wear down yours if you can't squash them handily. Small compact combat area. So there's a lot of variables not factored in. I figure it's all for fun though, it was interesting fighting just REDACTED in this scenario.
