Aren't they mostly there for the colony? The array should orbit far enough away from it that you only see 1-2 patrols and patrols will now do a search pattern like Remnants do if they spot you nearby so just ping from a bit away, then sneak around them while they investigate your last known location.

We need a story point option in which you go up to the relay patrols and tell them:
-Dude, you gotta let me get to the relay! I was watching porn in the diplomatic service's office computer and accidentally sent the link to half of the sector's representatives.

IMO the game needs a sneaking tutorial...
Especially for new players they don't really understand how sensor works and how to exploit patrol behavior.

That's an alignment that a tutorial isn't going to resolve, frankly. In my previous game I had a similar situation and the only reason I managed is because a pirate fleet warped in and drew everyone away far enough for me to Go Dark right next to the relay and pretend that was in any way, shape or form "stealthy".

I've spat my water over the monitor reading this good sir. Bravo. You also better call it P(ersean)Hub before the mods smite the joke making it not funny anymore :P

Aaaanyway. I also remember scratching my head in this mission, going back to my planet and going full nelson back at it again with just my phase ships and phase tenders since it was swarming with the little nasties in my campaign aswell and that's how I beat it.

Is the fact there's a stealth mission in late game where your fleet likely emits more signature than a small planetoid "fun"? That's arguable really.

I also don't really like the fact you got to sneak in no matter your standing with the Hat Fetishists Hegemony, while a simple matter of smash'n'upload or some good-ol-bribing depending on the relations with the faction would feel a lot better.

A diplomatic method seems like it would be cool, instead of sneaking you could have the option to bribe a corrupt administrator or something, who in turn makes you run to the far end of the sector and blow up some elite-level bounty instead.

That being said, burn speed is key for sneaking missions because it's less sneaking and more leading patrols on a wild goose chase.

I tried it the very sneaky way: 4 phase ships + 1 Dram with Militarysed systems and Isolated engine. They never saw it coming (sensor profile of 27 in dark run)

However, I do agree the main quest is quite hard to get a grasp on, you never know if you should follow it with a single frigate or the Pacific fleet.
I've been playing this game for several years, and some fights are just insane, I'm feeling a cheater burning story points each time I'm caught unprepared or without 10 capitals in my fleet. Not a great playing experience in these cases...

I managed to go through the whole thing right up to the spoiler fight without engaging a single ship. Clever stealth managed to avoid every single fleet that somehow knew where I was supernaturally as I headed back from a mission.

Personally, I hate that this trope is thrown at you so often. Why is there a fleet of 9000 ships just sitting in hyperspace looking for a fleet matching your exact description regardless of whether or not your transponder is on or off, whether or not you've swapped ships out prior to arriving, or even how long you've spent since you did the last part of the mission? The resource cost of just waiting there maintaining that fleet has to be insane, and that fleet would have had to fall apart after a while.

You do know there are at least two other ways to draw patrol attention right?

Can't you guys just get phase ships with phase field skill? I found it pretty easy to do stealth missions once you have enough phase ships because the phase field stacks. This story line deliberately make it so you can see the power and versatility of phase ships --> stealth missions, TT phase hunter, and end-fight boss. Like, trying to play as a conventional fleet kind of defeats the clear implications of the storyline, which is basically the TT has phase ships so they can do cool stuff.

And that's my main concern about the current release: the reworked skill system, procurement mission found in bars, exploration, all of it allows a wide choice for style of play. And then the doritos ships and main quest force you to play one specific way (the phase ship way) if you want to win end-game fights

Glad you had fun with it!  ;D
Yeah, I left my entire fleet in an abandoned station and used a single shephard with insulated engines to get it, you wait by the belt, they ping, chase after you, you dodge and go straight for the relay. Works everytime 5% of times.
Building up important contact and faction reps could have a serious interesting impact if they allowed you to walk around this sort of situation, even if the consequence isn't that great, it just feels really good.

Didn't use phase ship skill here. Even a single fast ship hiding in the asteroid belt nearby causing a distraction is enough to draw attention away so that it can circle around the other way and get the job done. No dram needed.

I don't really see the issue with needing to leave and come back later when the planets are in a more favourable alignment, but maybe activating the relay whilst the planet is nearby and there are tons of fleets should say that.
