Allow immediate violent response to Transponder complaint
« on: April 26, 2021, 02:17:09 PM »

When a fleet catches you in their territory, even if you're mortal enemies, they give you the whole "turn your transponder on" spiel with rep loss for being found and then for refusing to enable the transponder and THEN you get the option to open fire at them. Seems kinda odd to get dinged for two transponder related things before you then proceed to murder the entire patrol force (which of course dings you again). Can't we just respond to that query by immediately proceeding into combat?

I agree. No reason to deny a surprise attack like a true pirate.

Yeah it does look funny when I have my transponder on, small pickets just "maintain contact", but when it's off they rush in and I get slapped on my wrist for being a naughty boy

I'd add to this and ask to limit the number of times I'm asked to turn on the transponder to 1 per system. It's so annoying to go through the same menu options 10 times, when every tiny "fast picket" chases after me, and I keep refusing their requests. And maybe if I slap one picket down, others could just hover around instead of again chasing after me and demanding to turn on that damn transponder.

One thing I noticed with this issue is that it also causes annoying rep bleed with the underworld bounty to kill a patrol, unless you're already hostile to the target faction. Even assuming you don't get caught by any other patrols, you get dinged for rep twice (for not having transponder on, then refusing to turn it on) even before the actual combat.

A dialogue option like:
-Turn your transponder on immediately!
-So you have chosen death eh...picket boy

Alternative
-Turn your transponder on immediately!
-Turn on deez nuts! (opens fire)

We have instant engage for story fleets, so I don't see why not.

Hm, or alternatively have picket fleets back off and call for help from larger fleets if they spot a large hostile fleet without a transponder (the player can spot the intention of a fleet from a close distance so maybe NPCs should do that too). I know players will regularly drive around warfleets even for peaceful aims so this should probably be limited to players who are at war with the picket's faction.

It's just silly for a traffic cop to try ticketing an invading army.

Transponder off seems the way to farm supplies, fuel and cheap stuff for me ... small patrol fleet rushes to me ... auto resolve with 2-3 frigates kills most of the patrols. loot ... and repeat ...
Its not something to do all the time .. but since i am a mortal enemy to the Hegemony .. a "visit" now an then pays well while visting my friends.

probably needs a patch though: transponder off with a large fleet should force ai fleets not to rush to you but to get close by and follow you while trying to get "enough intel" to identify you.

Or maybe they get to relay your position to other fleets in the system. Come to think of it, it is kinda weird how these fleets don't seem to communicate about their sightings.

-Your ship license is from Zagan and you are in Askonia, it's not valid
-I'm pretty sure the current laws allow for that! It says sector wide valid!
-No I've never heard of that, if I catch you again without an Askonia license I'm towing your whole fleet back to Sindria
