Safe to add to existing saves

A tiny collection of Apogee derived kitbashes, created to give the poor, long-necked bastard some friends, and the average starfarer more paramilitary survey ships. Most likely suffers from a severe case of my-first-mod syndrome, meaning some stuff will definetly be overtuned

DA SHIPS:

Outrider
Wimpy, but comes with friends willing to give a hand

Horizon
Frigate level armanents, destroyer level speed, cruiser level shields

Yonder
A complete logistical package

Epitome
Odyssey's nerdy cousin with a suprisingly mean punch

Changelog:
Spoiler
Version 1.2:
-Added four Nexerlin starts:
* A solo Outrider frigate
* A small exploration fleet of a single Horizon and Outrider
* A large exploration fleet including a Yonder, an Apogee and an Outrider escort
* A grand fleet featuring Epitome, Apogee, Yonder, Horizon and two Outriders

Should be save compatibile

Version 1.1:
-Renamed Pathfinder-class to Outrider (don't sue me Vayra, please)

-Yonder:
* Reworked, almost remade sprite. Should no longer look like a haphazardly mashed together mess
* Reduced cargo capacity: 750 -> 600
* Reduced fuel capacity: 1000 -> 900
* Increased skeleton crew req and maximal crew: 50/150 -> 180/360*
* Increased fuel consumption per ly/jump: 2 -> 3
* Increased supply recovery cost and maintenence: 6 -> 10
* Reduced burn: 8 -> 7
* Added Civilian Hull

Not save compatibile

Version 1.0: Initial release
[close]
Thanks to all Unofficial Starsector Discord members who gave me feedback on my spritework. Without you, this stuff would look much, much worse

As an explorer first, I'll give it a whirl. Sprites look cool and I've always dreamed of having Apogee-themed fleets.

Edit: Link doesn't work, something to do with the %20 characters.

Try it now? I don't know what's causing the issue

Edit: Changed hosting to google docks, idk what was causing the issue

That's actually good looking kitbash holy cow. You have a lot of potential here.

My only criticism is probably Yonder-class, it's too easy to see what vanilla ship it's a part of. Will you play around with more mainstream kitbash material from low tech, midline, and high tech? They're easier to blend.

Can wait to see your next work! And don't sell yourself short, okay? Have a good one!

Yeah, I'll probably redo Yonder at some point. Tbh, it was the design I liked the least due to how obvious it was that it was made from parts of different ships, but I didn't manage to find good solutions, for fuel tanks especially, to really change that. As soon as I get some more time, I'll look into redesigning it.

And thanks for the kind words, they mean a lot

Pretty !
Also, maybe more apogee armor in front of the fuel tank would help ?

This looks great; I think you stuck together some quirky designs on an interesting theme, and on first quick look, they're not egregious. Congrats on finishing a thing and releasing it.

...I'll probably redo Yonder at some point. Tbh, it was the design I liked the least due to how obvious it was that it was made from parts of different ships, but I didn't manage to find good solutions, for fuel tanks especially, to really change that.

I actually like the fuel tanks, they feel reasonably well integrated and thematically fitting (antimatter fuel storage is one of those things you would definitely prefer tried-and-true modular solutions for), but what catches my eye is the center hull, especially forward of those two small turret mounts; it could use some TLC still.

Regardless, very cool.

Happy to find my first Yonder in a market! I do agree for a premier exploration ship it might do better to have a less bashed look, but with a bit of a description change it could easily fill the role of a hacked together exploration vessel built by some desperate souls.

There is a typo in it's full description though. Last paragraph, "Strenght".

Oh and sanity check it feels a bit over-tuned for the fuel and supply costs. For comparison, a Phaeton holds 200 less fuel, has the same max burn and jump cost, and costs only 2 supply less
than the Yonder. Likewise the Yonder is almost completely better than the Colossus, which has the same supply usage, holds 150 more, burns slower at 7 max, and has double the jump cost.

Based on the sprite and stated capabilities, I'd say it should hold about 600 fuel, travel at 7 max burn, consume 3 fuel per light year (giving it a range of 200 light years, which is pretty good I think), and have a cargo hold carrying 400 supply, and cost 10 supply per month, giving it 40 months of uptime or enough supply to survey a few planets. I'd also increase the crew capacity to 380 or so and a skeleton crew of 180. For a large ship like this, a lot more crew are generally needed for operations, not to mention surveying planets often demands more crew than the 150 this ship can hold. With these stats, It'd still be a one ship wonder that I'd feel comfortable taking out with a small escort.

Oh and I'd make it a civilian craft, possibly with a larger sensor profile like 120.

That's some cute kitbashes. I must point out that Pathfinder is already used as name for Vayra's Ship Pack exploration battleship - you should pick something else for your destroyer to avoid confusion.

How about Scout? I can't recall a class called 'Scout' anywhere else

Damn. At the risk of sounding rude, I wasn't expecting much when I first read "collection of Apogee derived kitbashes of questionable quality", but boy was I immediately proven wrong.

These look outstanding and will make a great addition to the list. Great job my dude
