Welcome to Boundary

The Story

Existing at the very edge of Conglomerate space exist the free worlds of Boundary, their autonomy guaranteed only by the poverty in which they wallow. Rife with pirates and terrorists alike they are considered the third world of the known galaxy, fed upon by the greedy and mad, broken by the fall of the once mighty Domain of Man.

It had started with a promise; the promise of resources and wealth, of untouched worlds ready for the taking, of a new home for the refugees of a dieing empire. One last gasp before the fall, the great waves of mankind spread out once more across the stars with hope of new golden age.
Of course it was not to be. As the very foundations of civilization crumbled under the weight of humanities hubris the new colonies of Boundary found themselves suddenly alone, cut off from the worlds that supported them. It was the beginning of a new age, not of prosperity, but of terror and famine. Boundary faltered as its worlds wilted and its people starved, abandoned at the edge of the reality.
Abandoned, but not quite gone. Among the stars of Boundary small pockets of humanity had survived the nightmare of the collapse. In time society was reborn, spreading slowly back across the trackless wastes.
At the heart of the rebirth hung the emerald worlds of Pendulum, a lone gem in the vastness of the void. Standing as the only truly terraformed system in the entire sector it became a beacon of hope for the broken peoples of Boundary. From Pendulum came the Compact and from the Compact came the chance of the golden age promised to Boundary so very long ago...

(Note: the Compact is not a religion, it is an accord unifying the sector... sort of.)

Boundary

Probably a new faction, with its own territory when the galaxy(?) map comes out. Infested with pirates but with its own story and theme.

Ships

Not sure how heavily reliant on the standard ships Pendulums navy will be but the numerous pirates and malcontents will probably be stock ships. Pendulums shipyards are large for their sector but by most standards are still pretty small. They will never field capital ships except the odd battle-cruiser, and even cruisers will be limited, with destroyers forming the true backbone of the Pendulum Defense Force or PDF(ha). They will be fielding a TON of destroyers, attempting to patrol their unsecured territory.

Two ships that I have deemed good enough to include so far:

Osprey-class Cruiser - I'm not sure if I'm alone in this but I cannot stand the standard Eagle's setup, front locked guns mixed with awful maneuverability makes for one of the worst ships I have ever had the misfortune of putting into the AI's hands. The Osprey is an attempt to remedy this mainly because despite its poor engineering the Eagle also looks ****ing awesome. Mounting 4 forward locked medium ballistic turrets (about 90 degrees) as well a single fully turreted medium ballistic point for point defense, the Osprey trades armor, OP, and a small amount of firepower for maneuverability and the ability to actually hit the broad side of hopefully someone else' barn.

Aigaion-class Escort Destroyer - the first not-totally-frankenship ship I've made so far I'm actually rather proud of this little guy. Designed to be the standard destroyer throughout the PDF, the Aigaion is a pretty basic workhorse. Allegedly dredged up from old Domain era blueprints by Hecaton Engineering, Pendulums premier industrial firm, its designed around standardization and ease of production. Cheap and sturdy, the lack of any form of strike weapon is considered a concern only for the fools who don't realize an auto-cannon is all you need.

That's all for now, just getting started on some other ships. I can promise neither progress nor a download but I really will try to finish this one and not have a repeat of the early days of M&B. As always opinions are welcome. Ships are attached as I still haven't bothered to learn how to embed.
