Post Your End-Game Capable Fleets! (Spoilers obviously)
« on: April 07, 2021, 07:57:27 PM »

I know a lot of people are struggling with the endgame atm, so I figured a thread for this would be a good idea. Please try to avoid builds that are reliant on the current cheese (Derelict Congingent & ships that are only good with a SP Safety Overrides).

Here's mine atm:

This fleet is capable of taking down any [REDACTED] fleet, given appropriate tactics, but I'm currently grinding story points before I try take on the hardest bounty fleet (the first time I tried to capital-spam it and that ended very poorly).

Edit: Here's my skill setup too, I'd probably do it a little differently now and not double dip so far into Leadership, but getting coordinated maneuvers and wolfpack is very good since frigates are a must against endgame fleets (cheese and unique ship use excepted).

The player-piloted Doom should be self explanatory. Two Afflictors and two Hyperions cap points for more DP at the start of the battle and do very well on their own, shredding frigates and destroyers and putting serious pressure on cruisers and caps. Two Champions each escorted by a Wasp or Spark Mora, all with Heavy Armor, make for a direct combat force that brawls with the best of them and is very hard to kill for anything that isn't a pair of Radiants; even then, they tend to not die long enough for me to pop over in the Doom and kill whatever has spent all its flux trying to get through a Heavy Armor Mora. The bomber Herons backing them up get plenty of kills. The 5 unofficered Omens provide more anti-frigate and fighter cover, 20% ECM with their built in hullmods and the ECM skill, and they all have Reinforced Bulkheads built in. They do occasionally die but they're cheap enough to restore.

Combat skills are so the Doom is the best Doom it can be. I was initially torn between Coordinated Maneuvers and Wolfpack, but eventually I built-in Nav Relay on all 4 of my carriers so I'm at 16% Nav without the skill anyway and Wolfpack is amazing for my Hyperions and Afflictors. Crew Training and Carrier Group is another hard choice; Carrier Group gives my 12 decks of fighters 25% increased replacement rate, but Crew Training just barely lets me deploy my Doom, Afflictors, and Omens three times and my Hyperions twice with my current DP. Ultimately I think Crew Training is the better choice with this specific fleet, but a slightly different fleet might want Carrier Group instead. Before I switched to Wolfpack I ran Phase Corps just for the extra PPT on my Afflictors, but after I figured out that Coordinated Maneuvers is obsoleted by built-in Nav Relay on carriers that have free s-mod slots I switched to Flux Regulation instead. Industry is, as always, for people bad enough at the game to be poor. Not being poor lets you spend your skills on better stuff.

However, while this fleet was able to defeat the Coronal Hypershunt guardians (though I did lose 3 Hyperion's and a Doom in that battle), I would struggle with Remnant fleets with 2 Radiants in them.  I actually just recently tried upping the fleet cap to 400 and surprised myself by defeating 3 of them without losing a ship, so I guess having a bit more DP helped turn the tables or I just got very lucky:

I really like the Ziggurat as a unique capital since it feels incredibly powerful. It has got great survivability commanded by a level 7 officer I found with fairly relevant skills (Helmsmanship, Target Analysis, Impact Mitigation, Phase Mastery, Systems Expertise, Gunnery Implants and Damage Control).  Unfortunately the Ziggurat's -50% CR per deployment coupled with the slow base 3% daily recovery rate means after a single battle it's down for about 11 days even with the Efficiency Overhaul (with how expensive this ship is to run and how slow it is to regenerate CR it makes a fairly big difference; it's CR would take nearly 17 days without Efficiency Overhaul).

I actually haven't managed to find a role for the Paragon and Odyssey where they are successful (I didn't use them much against the Coronal Hypershunt guardians either), so I could probably streamline the fleet a little.

Yeah I don't really think capitals aside from the Radiant and Zig are good in this patch. Too slow against the endgame fleets.

Lots of high tech fleets here! So, what do you guys do with your hyperions? Do you safety override them, or do you give their officers helmsmanship elite? Which works better?

NGL I was almost tempted to say 'no phase fleets' because that seems to be the no.1 response after all the other various sorts of cheese. Honestly though at this point I just want to see a strong midline/lowtech fleet (credit to the one person who posted one with at least some midline ships) that is capable, because I suspect those things are largely incompatible with the nature of the threat.

Phase abuse IS the n1 cheese. SO builds are not truly "late game capable", they drop off hard after a certain point (hilarious in the meantime though). Derelict sounds like a solid meme and is likely overtuned to hell, but I'm yet to see anyone doing the hardest challenges with it.

Phase just seems like a no-brain answer to anything. It doesn't matter what the enemy can do, you just avoid it all for the same static cost of your cloak upkeep. You can completely ignore all the fancy boss mechanics and special effects on weapons, phase through it, and then safely went because you are faster than anyone. Doom in particular is also the best anti-fighter in the game, which makes it even more opressive against the remnants and omega. Oh, the boss has a unique splitting mechanics? Just press F and bypass it completely, lmao.

This is becoming like Hearthstone with people posting the deck compositions!  ;D

I like the combinations from various different people..
Recently discovered was phase ships, for me, very fun to command and you can do a lot of damage with a single Doom even against a large fleet.

I lost my Paragon flagship to a Tri-Tachyon assassin who had a full phase fleet of ships and completely underestimated how difficult it was going to be.

Is there a skill or effective way to counter phase ships?? Someone mentioned spamming missiles / pressure worked but is there a way to stop the actual phase?

The only way to interact with a phased ship is the overload system Harbinger has (which de-phases the target in addition to overloading it). You know, that one phase destroyer.

That sounds a bit disappointing if that's the only way. I think phase ships are a little OP, the doom in particular as it combines really nastily with afflicters and the Harbinger.
I remember that assassin couldn't get through the paragons shields with his mines, but the smaller frigates / destroyer or whatever it was, kept disabling my ships with a single shot. Really annoying!

There was literally no way to play against it, of course had the deployment point penalty too which didn't help.

It doesn't really work against Tesseracts and I haven't even tried the Ziggurat, but my current vanilla fleet is a paragon, and a mix of (built in SO) Hyperions and Tempests.  Tempests are really just filler.  Works well enough against multiple remnant ordos and most bounty fleets, although high tech bounties give me some trouble.

The lack of variety in ships in end game fleets only shows the current state of balance of the game.

That being said, here's my end game fleet:
https://ibb.co/v1KDHbL
Spoiler
it's not really end game because I can't beat any 300k+ high, midtech or remenant bounty because xiv ships are garbage.
But at least Imy fleet is the best in terms of turtling and waiting for Cr to do its job

I wouldn't say that endgame fleets  are low variety - just the people who've posted here. There have been descriptions of several other fleet types that are endgame capable (Hiruma Kai was doing Paragon + Odyssey + Aurora I believe plus a few support ships?).

Here is my not quite endgame fleet, because I subbed out my Onslaught XIV for a Champion for better exploration ability. This fleet will take up to single Radiant full alpha core fleets, though it has trouble with doubles (I really need the Onslaught to deal with them and higher). It handles 300k bounties, though the fighter and phase ones are a bit annoying and I like to bring my Onslaught to deal with them to lower the chance of taking losses. In terms of speed, it usually either wins or loses a fight in 4-5 minutes tops, though there can sometimes be a bit of mopup required if theres a few remnant frigates running away: I took hardened subsystems off the frigates because they don't usually tick down. Missiles kill things. In terms of making the fleet better: it needs more frigates, both for ECM and just for numbers. A half dozen omens would make fighter, phase, and remnant enemies much easier. It could also use some interceptor cover, though I don't have any carrier skills.
