Mod & Resources Website
« on: April 04, 2012, 07:32:20 AM »

Hello modding community!

I found that some of the mods in here are absolutely awesome, and the art produced by some third party people is pretty astounding as well.

However, I've also found that finding the mods that are active, their latest versions, or just a list of all third party ship images was not as easy as it could have been (there is a list of images, but does it contain everything in these forums?).

This is why I built http://www.starfarerhub.com/ (that, and some free time).

At the moment, a rather simple website, that allows you to register, and upload your mods (with version history) and images into several categories. Other people are then able to filter these by category and download both images and mods (including older versions).

Not exceptional (yet), but hopefully functional. Please let me know what you think!

The site seem well done. Does it search automatically for info inside the mods .zip file?

Bug: I created a mod, but can't create versions. I filled in the info and tried to upload the zip file for the mod but when the page refreshed, it still reported no versions in the version list.

Could it be you are uploading archives bigger than 8 Mb? I think that would cause this behaviour.

Not at the moment, but I think this should be possible.

A mod can't be in 2 categories, but my mod weapons pack should be both in ships and weapons

This is the trouble with categories, I wanted to implement tags, but this was easier at first. Besides, if nobody thought this was a problem, it would be a shame to have implemented it for nothing :)

Need a category for "Factions" or "Campaign", since some mods add ships but then only create missions for them

Wait, you're supposed to upload the archive in where it says "upload picture" in the zip format, right? That actully confused me.

No first you create the mod entry with all the static information that always applies, and then you add versions to it with version numbers, files and changelogs.

Pretty much standard fare for a mod database.

Aha. Thabks for explaining. But after the entry is made in the database, you add the mod archive then, or?
