Make contact notification stick until it expires
« on: March 28, 2021, 03:29:11 AM »

Pretty simple request. Many people are confused on how to get contacts, since they miss that there's an intel message about it. Contacts are also pretty important. In my opinion, important enough to have contact message outright stick until it expires. Or, at least, it should periodically resurface, similarly to how cargo/fuel/crew overflow does.

Yes please, it should be far more obvious since there's a ton of unimportant info spamming intel notification. This should remain visible until the player decides if he wants to develop that relationship or forget about it.

Thirded! Same with officer candidates. The intel screen is pretty confusing and unless there is some glaring way to interact with it and explore the tabs (pinned high value objectives linking to it) then I think a lot of players are never going to realize that important things are buried there.

Sounds good! Made potential contact intel not expire at all and be flagged "important". For officer promotion, extended the duration to 120 days (keeping it indefinite feels kind of odd?), an also flagged it "important".

Speaking of contacts, I think the odds of getting one from bar missions might be a bit low? Small sample size is small, but I've done probably 10 bar missions and the only contact I have is a scripted one. I might have missed a notification?

I'd like to second that the odds of contacts seems low.

I'm maybe mid-game?  March, Cycle 210. 3 colonies (size 4, 3, 3), Paragon, Aurora, Champion, 3x Herons, Hammerhead, Drover, Tempest  (and a Legion XIV stashed waiting to be restored).  I have 1 contact on my intel contact tab, which I gained after the colonies and Paragon.  So besides the Academy contact, that is it.  I had been trying to pick up a faction military contact (by doing bounty bar missions), but when the intel tab bounty missions that just show up by flying near a comm relay in hyperspace are more lucrative (250k-300k) it's rough picking up only a 100k bar bounty that goes to the edge of the map.  Probably did around 8-10 of those bounty bar missions, every time I found one, before the permanent contact offer.  So I've had to go out of my way, in a non-economical sense, trying to get a bounty hunting contact just to see what they do.

In hindsight, I'm realizing the spy satellite, war crime bombing, and marine raid missions are also probably potential military contacts.

On top of potential contacts sticking around, I really would love the ability to spend a story point and say, "I want this good contact with faction X (Tri-tach, Hegemony, etc) who offers missions of type Y (Military, Trade, etc)."

Actually, out of curiosity, does taking a commission get you an automatic military contact?  If not, that might an interesting way to have the player express interest in contacts of that faction type.  I suppose I should just try it and find out.

Also third'ing the low chance of contacts. I've been doing about 60% bar missions and I've only got ONE contact. And even though they are priority, they still haven't sent me any missions or anything

Wait, do contacts call you? I go visit my one (script given) hegemony contact and he has a cheap ship and a few quests available.

Contacts don't call you, you have to go hit them up. A bit annoying but does make for a bit of a 'homeport' feel where the contacts are.

Though I'd like it if they remotely sent you jobs once in a while.

... mine just let me have a pristine XIV Dominator for 93k, so I have identified a critical problem!!! Must fix now!!!

There are no romance options for contracts.

My main issue with contacts is it seems you have to do quite a few really small/poorly compensated missions before you get good ones. It makes developing a contact after the early game a real chore, and also almost made me miss a lot of contacts before I worked out what was going on because the missions seemed terrible.

I was hoping they would call (via intel popup)  to tell you that they have more missions for you. I HAVE been stopping off at the bar but they never have anything for me...

They are in the comm directory not the bar.

The fact that veterans can't seem to figure out the contacts is hilarious to me (probably not to Alex tho), I've also had trouble in the beginning until I accidentally stumbled on the notification in the intel screen, meaning I also somehow missed the message popping up on the left.

I figured out how contacts worked and I have I think 4 (2 or 3 or whom are story contacts) and I have done a bunch of missions for them. I agree they seem easy to miss, and the odds of getting a contact from a bar mission seem too low, I have done maybe 15 bar missions and only have 1 or 2 contacts from them. I also agree that contact missions should pay better, they're barely worth the fuel as it is. I was recently offered a contact bounty against eight guardians + 20 ships that was in the farthest corner of the map, for only 220k.
