How to Download and Change Graphics Lib Settings
« on: December 29, 2020, 12:58:19 PM »

This is a small guide for how to change your settings for Graphics Lib, and download it. The main reason you might want to change them is because your PC can't handle the default settings, so the game is laggy. Don't be afraid if this is the case, Vanilla Starsector can run on almost any PC, and default Graphics Lib settings are much more demanding.

To Download the mod:
  • First, you want to download the mod. All you have to do is go to this page https://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=10982.0, and click the big download at the top.

  • Next, you have to extract the file. I'm not sure if Winzip can unzip a 7z file, but if not, you have to install 7zip. Here's a link to that https://www.7-zip.org/download.html You probably just want one of the top 2 downloads, based on if your system is 32 bit or 64 bit.

Then, you have to right click on the file, hover over 7-zip, and click "Extract Here".

  • After that navigate to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Fractal Softworks\Starsector\mods", or you can paste that path into the top bar,

and put the extracted GraphicsLib file into the mods folder

Also make sure you didn't drag GraphicsLib into another mod's folder!

Yay! Now that you put GraphicsLib into the mods folder, you can edit the mod's settings

To edit the settings using preset options:
  • Open the GraphicsLib folder and open "Preset Options". Then open one of the folders based on what setting you want. Use "Craptop" for low-end systems. Then right click on the "GRAPHICS_OPTIONS" file, and copy it.

  • Then go back to "GraphicsLib", and paste the file.

  • Last click "Replace the file in the destination", and you now have a preset option set.

To edit the settings manually:

Now you can change all the settings to your heart's content. Be sure to read the text that comes after a # to understand what changing the settings does. The way you change the settings is by changing "true" to "false" or changing the number after the colon. Be sure to only change the part right after the quoted text and the colon.
