Uninstall/Reinstall did not solve the problem.

Running with all mods disabled does not solve the problem.

Hi - hmm. I'm assuming you've tried rebooting?

If that doesn't/didn't help, could you:
1) Run the game in administrator mode, and
2) Run the game in compatibility mode for Windows 95?

If *that* doesn't work, this thread is talking about a different issue - and in fact possibly a different OS version (if you've got windows 10, anyway), but the potential solution there seems like it may be worth a shot.

Also: do you have something like MSI Afterburner or similar running? That's known to cause problems similar to what you've got. Also, possibly worth a shot: killing (via task manager) and GeForce experience executables.

And, finally, if none of the above makes a difference, you might try downgrading the graphics drivers to their previous version...

(Also: how certain are you that the windows update/geforce update is what broke it? E.G. is it possible that something else was installed/updated on the system in the same timeframe? I mean, what you're saying is a reasonable surmise, but I just want to make sure we're not excluding anything else - that is, any other changes to your system in the meantime - that might also potentially be the issue.)

The Geforce Experience graphics drivers appear to have been the root cause.

I went through all the steps you suggested, but ultimately when opening up Geforce Experience to roll-back the drivers, I noticed they had an option to REINSTALL the driver.

After this process completely successfully, starsector works like a dream.

Version 457.09

Additional Info
This driver was already installed but after installing a massive Windows Update (2004) I was asked to reinstall those drivers. I played the game earlier this afternoon successfully, performed this process tonight and the error began appearing immediately afterwards.

Thanks for the help Alex.

Nice, glad you got it working! Thank you for describing the process (the reinstall option etc); I haven't had to do this myself, so this is good to know about, as far as something to suggest in a similar case.
