How to make pirate raids happen less often?
« on: August 19, 2020, 10:31:56 PM »

I have my own system and I am playing in a large universe. I like to explore the universe but the pirate raids happen too often that I don't get to go too far out before they start bothering my system with raids if I leave it alone.

Is there something in the setting i can change to make them attack less often?

You should be able to build up the defenses in your system to defend raids without you. It's best to have at least two colonies in the same system, both with high tier stations and military bases, but in my experience, one colony with a star fortress + high command should be able to beat all pirate raids fine, although it will struggle with the big faction raids.

Alternatively you can become friendly with pirates (by doing missions for them) and they will stop attacking you.

I don't have problem with defending, but the -stabiility and -accessibility is what i want to prevent without needing to go destroy the base every 3 months or so.

If your reputation with the pirates is high enough, the malus will be reduced or even entirely negated.

I have my own system and I am playing in a large universe. I like to explore the universe but the pirate raids happen too often that I don't get to go too far out before they start bothering my system with raids if I leave it alone.
Pirates raid too much.

The worst part of pirates is not defending my worlds, but the core worlds controlled by every NPC faction aside from pirates.  It is the core worlds that (-3/-50%) pirates raid over and over again.  Core worlds lack the defenses to defend against pirates, and pirates usually succeed at raiding the core worlds if player does not defend them, slashing their stability.  After they raid successfully too much, some of the core worlds will decivilize.  Most of my playtime is chasing pirates to defend the core worlds, then grinding rep to fix the constant penalties from factions' expeditions.

Ultimately, I get sick of them and want to destroy all of the core worlds to eliminate the babysitting, although I want to befriend pirates before then.

I don't have problem with defending, but the -stabiility and -accessibility is what i want to prevent without needing to go destroy the base every 3 months or so.
For what it is worth, if all of the core worlds are dead, you effectively cannot get rid of activity because a new pirate base will respawn the day after and put it back on your colony.  You will need to live with permanent pirate activity after core is dead.  The best the player can do is be friendly with pirates, which eliminate the raids (but not the activity).

With all core worlds alive, they usually pick on a core world, although you still get the occasional -1/10% base that pops up out of nowhere, or the rare -3/-50% when the quota pirates decide to target you instead of a core world.

For what it's worth, I find that the initial -1/-10% penalties are fairly insignificant, and I can just ignore them until it's convenient to clean up the base. If you want to explore, just explore and deal with the pirates when you come home to sell loot and restock. Your colonies will be fine and you will make plenty of money.

Yes, those -1/-10% bases are insignificant for a while.  Even a fledgling colony with a tier 1 orbital station and minimal ground defense can repel those pirate raids reliably.  Orbital station is always the first structure up because player only has time to build one structure before the first pirate raid arrives.

Those -3/-50% bases are highly annoying, and that is what the player gets to face after total core kill because those quota bases need to target someone, and that will be you if there are no more core worlds left.

You can reduce the number of pirate bases in settings.json . The default is 2-3, if you set this to 1-1 the pirates should raid you less.
