well it's much more profitable to live there with them upgrade your orbital defences and start farming AI Cores, a single battle gives you ~500000Cr.

This is correct, if theres no base, there is a limited amount of Remnants. If there is a base, then destroying it will stop them from respawning.

That being said...

This is also true, and if you can build up your defences, it'll be an infinite profit generator.

I'm pretty sure that's not true. IIRC there is nothing you can do to completely eliminate Remnants from a system, even the Low Risk ones.

To quote the wiki: "Remnant fleets will spawn from Remnant stations in the campaign, so, if there's a planet that could be a very valuable colony, the Nexus will have to be destroyed first to ensure the colony's safety."

That's my only source so I'm not 100% sure its accurate.

I am pretty sure it is true. I did it several times. All you need is destroy the nexus. There are no need to destroy fleets he spawn - they will disappear in few month (or years ;)). Only several initially generated (usually weak and dormant) fleets will remain after that. Kill them and that it - system is clear.

Sometimes people think remnants are respawning even in low-threat systems, because they sometimes patrol around outer reach objects, so player have not kill them, "cleaning" the system. And when you came back again - those patrols already guard another objects.

Also, I hear some mods make [REDACTED] respawn. But it not happen in vanilla. Unfortunately.
