A plea for more updates....
« on: July 27, 2020, 09:33:44 AM »

This is a shameless plea to the Fractal team to provide more updates to your fans!  We have all been anxiously and patiently awaiting the next game update for over a year now and while blog posts can tide us over, even those have become sparse.  Especially during this time of lockdown and quarantine over the global pandemic, your adoring fans would love some additional content from the developers.  Starsector is an amazing game already and we are all just really excited to see more of it!  Thank you Alex and team for entertaining your demanding fanbase   ;D

Diligent man will give you what you ask, regardless if you need it. Wise man will give you what you actually need, regardless if it the same you ask.*

I believe, Alex is from second category.

*I hope I translate it correct.

Well, on the bright side, I should have a new blog post in... not too long :)

That aside, just - there's a lot of content, and it's not something that could really get done any faster than the rate we're already working on it, if that makes sense. I'll say, though, I really do appreciate everyone's patience - I know it's been a long wait!

We'll see about that... *get's out bullwhip and caffeine pills*

But seriously, Fractal Softworks works hard and delivers quality. Each major update expands Starsector into a new, cohesive experience that quickly becomes more polished than the majority of "complete" games after a few patches. Starsector's major updates are more like sequels or post-launch expansions. I don't think it would be fair to expect that as often as most studios deliver half-baked updates.

On the other hand, i did register this account in 2013...  :P

This has been a nine year ride so far, and we're not done yet.

Rest assured, this isn't over, and it isn't going to be fast. I for one see so many magical, lost traits of software/game developers preserved in Starsector, I don't give three hoots if it takes longer. If all else fails, I walk away for a bit and return. But Alex' teasing of "more" recently, plus some of the teaser stuff on his Twitter... Unf. Hotness.

If Alex keeps his pace between updates, it should arrive around....... The end of February next year.

Honestly can't tell if this is just an exaggeration or a realistic scenario. Either way, no one will expect it when it comes out.

It's actually very much a plausible scenario:

Hmm. Release more updates on what's going on, or devote that time to actual updates...
I know which I'd pick for Alex to do.

Easy, release patch notes!
Which meant imminent release for more recent releases.  Patch notes have evolved into a release unto themselves.  I doubt Alex will release patch notes until the next release will be ready to download a month or less after he puts the notes up.
