Hi all,

I've been playing for a little while now and am wondering if there's any way to change a colonised/conquered system/star's name to one of your choosing? I'm aware that you can already change your own name, that of your officers, your colonies, ships, ship classes etc etc, I'd just like to rename my hive of scum and villainy to something a little less word salad-y.

In short: Colonies, yes. Star systems, no. To explain in depth is, frankly, past my capabilities.

I have renamed several stars by modifying my save. It is kinda a pain in the ass because you need to change numerous references to the system, including jump points. And if you're renaming a core system (like penelope's star, hate that name), there are additional lines you need to not edit. honestly not rightly sure which are which, but so far i havent broken a save, though i always backup.

The name is, unfortunately, used as the unique ID of the system, so to change it mid-game is what is called a Bad Idea.

Hmm. Always renamed em just before i colonized in em to try and keep it simple, and tried to make sure i didnt screw with the specific reference lines. Noticed quite a few i had to tip toe around with penelope's, but so far i have seen no ill effects. Factions and pirates been doing their raids/expeditions there just fine, and all events and news referencing the planets in them seem to use my new names just fine. Hope there i didnt screw it up, been a fair few in game years since i did that, would hate to see this save break now.

anything i should keep an eye out for to know if it screwed up?

What you've done is a hack, so you've basically voided your warranty for that save. If you run into a bug, Alex and modders like myself will probably just tell you, "Start a new game."

Well I'd really rather not go and bork my current save, I tried my hand at editing references in a separate save but it didn't seem to work out. Has there ever been any talk of adding it to the game, or modding it in?

haha, i would never expect someone to unbork my save if i was dinking about with it XD. but i have seen no problems with it at all. ... yet, haha

Works very well with mods at least, no problem after 50h
