[0.9.1a] HullMod Expansion Pack [Unknown]
« on: February 14, 2020, 05:42:57 PM »

i have been seeing many people on the forums asking where did my mod go in addition to getting bombarded with requests on discord to get it back, although i had no intentions of getting it back, i felt guilty toward people who liked the mod and lost access to it due to the drama that happened on the forums.

here is the short version: i was accused with theft by "Nia Tahlan" with no basis or research, originally i bought a 3D ship pack for over 100$ then converted it to 2D Sprite pack in-order to introduce it's ships as SuperShips which goes along the mod idea, she accused me of using these models as they were not supposed to be used outside of Unity projects "allegedly" (funny because the same model pack is being sold on like 3 other websites by the same creator) a 5-mins research would have been enough to prove this.

my point is that it's illegal to accuse people with theft without any proof, that can obviously get anyone hurt as it's a direct attack toward their integrity as a mod author.

When Alex decided to ignore her baseless accusation and only asked me to stay "civil" i realized that the law doesn't simply apply to everyone here, she is obviously getting full freedom to judge any creator integrity (even without any proof) and if only Alex would have been fair toward everyone i wouldn't have deleted my mod.

Now since i know most of you will comment something along the lines of (it's still your fault for being disrespectful) know that there is a difference between asking someone to prove their rights of using a specific asset, and instantly accusing them of illegally stealing it without any proof, one way is respectful, the other is not.

Anyway, here is a link for a downscaled version of the mod, the version contains 50% less content (no boss ships/ no upgraded hullmods/ no super Capitals) and don't ask me for the full version since apparently if you are not an artist who can make his own Sprites you are not allowed to use any model which you didn't make yourself even if you paid money for it or had a permission from it's creator.

Now leave my discord alone, and don't bother sending balance feedback, if you don't like the mod simply don't use it.

If you really don't want any feedback, then why are you posting a mod? There usually is a big difference between not liking a mod, and providing feedback.

Also, having read the incident as it occurred at the time... There is a *vast* difference between what was said, and what you perceived it as which was looking for malice where there was none.
"Are you sure you're allowed to use those sprites?"
Is not...
"You are not allowed to use those sprites."

Considering prior mixups that occurred, that you quickly corrected by the way which was a swell move! I don't think that was an unreasonable thing for someone to ask.

For the record - since I'm being accused of unfairness - here's what Nia originally said:

Quote from: Nia Tahl
Are you sure you're allowed to use those "sprites"? That superdreadnought in particular is a top-down render of a ship sold in the Unity Asset Store

See here: https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/vehicles/space/federation-commandership-b6-77742

Might wanna double-check there

In my interpretation, that wasn't an "accusation" or even anything particularly aggressive. To me it seemed somewhere in the area of "heads up that you might want to check into this" - though apparently there's some history here between Phoenix and Nia that I was not aware of.

Here's my response to some of what Phoenix said in response to that (this isn't a single quote from Phoenix, but pulls from a couple of different responses where I felt it crossed the line):

Quote from: Alex
Quote from: Phoenix
You have some major insecurity problem girl ...
I am not sure why you are acting like everyone’s lawyer when no one has asked you to interfere, you are not welcome here and your opinion will be purposefully ignored until you learn some manners.

This kind of stuff is not acceptable here. Per the forum rules (though that really shouldn't have to be said), please treat other users with respect.

Please note that wasn't passing judgment on the legitimacy of the asset use and so on; that seemed like a separate issue - and one that seems like it could be handled without me getting involved. By, for example, Phoenix saying "yes I bought these assets". At this point I didn't have any basis to make any sort of judgement regarding the assets, and didn't feel like I needed to make one in the first place. (Edit: on re-reading, it looks like Phoenix *did* say this, so that aspect of it was already pretty settled.)

And here's Phoenix's final response, prior to deleting the thread:

Quote from: Phoenix
With all due respect Alex, i am the one being attacked here, if you back-track to the start of this conversation, Nia showed out of nowhere questioning my rights of using the assets i have in my mod although i spent my own money to get it licensed just to avoid her pointless accusations, despite that (and) the fact that she had no basis or proofs to back her up, she decided to go on with her claims.
yet i am the one you decided quote although i am the one defending my credibility here.
ultimately, if even the main Administrator of this forum refuses to handle problems fairly, i fail to see a reason to keep contributing to this modverse, for that reason i am out.

no they didn't "ask", i was directly told "you have no rights to use said ship (insert ship name here) outside of Unity projects"

though apparently there's some history here between Phoenix and Nia that I was not aware of.

The prior history in question here was me giving some criticism on the balance of the mod over on the unofficial discord. Something I'll gladly give any other modder. Criticism, that I might add, involved me taking the time to explain how things like armor mechanics work. I like to think I did my most possible to provide feedback in a constructive manner, he took it as a personal attack.

Alex quotes the old thread... And you are arguing against that which all can see.

You are blinded by malice, and calling Alex a liar heh.

With my full respect Alex, when you say "Are you sure you're allowed to use those "sprites"?" it's exactly like questioning the creator integrity and calling them a thief , it's especially insulting if you haven't done basic research before typing an accusation.
imagine someone asking you "are you sure you own Starsector ?" it's obvious that said person is trying to question your claim of owning the game, it's insulting when it has no proof behind it.

and did you even read whats in the quote ?
malice? it's kinda funny given the situation we are in, i didn't start this whole drama, someone came out of nowhere and questioned something they have no rights over.

Uh, to be fair Phoenix, Bro. Yea I did read what was said, more than once. You are the liar.

Those first sprites which were problematic and being distributed on "free" (stolen) art dumps? Some of those were for sale by the real creators, so as I see things Nia was actually looking out for you and trying to help. No one is omniscient.

Nia
please don't claim that your feedback is "Constructive" as it's a funny thing to say, when i tell people that their feedback is welcomed this doesn't mean you should randomly throw it in the Starsector discord while i am offline and make it look like that i am a very unprofessional in my work only to comeback and find 5-7 people calling my mod "broken" because they heard you saying 2-3 bad things about it, if you truly cared about helping me balance my mod you could have dropped me a direct message as i never ignore these and they won't be lost in the massive amount of messages that gets posted in the global channel daily.

"Those first sprites which were problematic and being distributed on "free" (stolen) art dumps?" since you are saying there is more than one, can you show me a simple proof for every sprite i used?
you can't, just because i made 1 accidental mistake in the past, it doesn't mean that all my work is stolen, wake up.

Since there's some potential for this happening: if this thread escalates into an argument or personal attacks, I'm just going to lock it.

Uh, to be fair Phoenix, Bro. Yea I did read what was said, more than once. You are the liar.

(I don't think that's helping things.)

With my full respect Alex, when you say "Are you sure you're allowed to use those "sprites"?" it's exactly like questioning the creator integrity and calling them a thief , it's especially insulting if you haven't done basic research before typing an accusation.

I mean, I'm sure that's not a fun thing to hear, especially if you - as it looks - took care to do things the right way. But I also don't think it amounts to calling you a thief. There are other ways one might end up unknowingly using assets they don't have rights to, for example downloading them from somewhere where it says it's public domain, but that isn't actually true. If someone pointed this out to me, I'd be grateful - and, of course, concerned and not real happy about it.

Listen here junior, you wake up.

"Doing research" on those Unity store assets, I can just as easily find renders and stolen versions of them all over the place as Alex said. Your argument is full of so many holes because you are blinded by malice.
