I'm sure this has been suggested before but allow this message to be my endorsement.  I would love to have some controller support options for this game.  I know there are a lot of ship mechanics involved, so most likely it would have to be a controller/keyboard hybrid deal but I generally prefer navigating space with a controller over my hands on the keys.
