I've begun to feel that the bigger problem with sabots, especially in vanilla, is the lack of an alternative anti shield guided missile.  At the very least you've got a choice between torps and harpoons for armor

Sabots are the only useful Kinetic missile imo. Squalls are just so vulnerable to ballistic PD unless spammed in large numbers which takes up valuable large missile slots.

For smalls and mediums, Sabots are the only kinetic missile. Dealing 4x the shield damage of any other missile (HEs or frag damage) is a pretty unique feature.

I find Ssqualls rarely get shot down by PD. Not really a fair comparison since they have different roles and Sabots have shorter range, but the problem with Squalls is that I find they can't hit anything other than Capitals at long range. But if Squalls were better, being able to essentially shut down shields for a lengthy amount of time or deal massive amounts of hard flux damage at long range, they would be overpowered would they not?
