Can mothball entire fleet
« on: July 19, 2019, 06:42:13 PM »

Mothballing an entire fleet is not only possible, but is massively exploitable.

First noticed when I had ran out of supplies and my new far-away waystation of a colony wasn't up and running yet, I put all but a single frigate into storage, and decided to try to make it back home on a single frigate (hopefully)

Turns out one can mothball every last ship in their fleet, and still pilot it.

No Supplies? No Problem!

Can:
Carry arbitrary quantities of fuel and crew
Fly through hyperspace, including deep hyperspace and storms

Cannot:
do combat
carry cargo of any mass ( n / 0 = infinite, results in a 0x multiplier to hyperspace speed, or "0" effective speed (seems to really be a very slow non-zero speed in practice))

Thank you for the report! Fixed the issue where only the cargo capacity was properly counting for being "over maximum" in this scenario. Basically the way it's behaving with anything in the cargo holds is the way it's supposed to behave if there's also any crew or fuel on board.

so you'll still be able to mothball, but will have effectively "0" speed?

it will be a sort of fleet stasis then while the world runs? (will be handy for "time skipping", for purposes of colony building, like say, a waystation for fleet supplies)

though, if you have 0/0/0 cargo/crew/fuel you can still move around freely within a system. Not that there's much point to it, probably.

Yeah, there's little point in just wasting time like that, since it's usually at a premium anyway, and you could be doing profitable things with it even if there isn't any time pressure.

Not sure if you'll see this heare, additional note:

When the player has 0 crew, an arbitrary quantity of cargo and fuel can be carried without incuring the capacity penalty

does not happen when fleet isn't mothballed, even with a 0 skeleton crew requirement (in this case it's the fuel causing the massive penalty):

so I'm thinking:
speedrunning for exploration data/levelling is a couple of super high burn frigates preferably with solar shielding, and buying massive amounts of fuel. store all cargo/crew and go exploring.
won't be able to salvage but you CAN get exp from things, intel of where the beacons are, other astral-location data, also preliminary scans of planets. actually great for Scan missions since those don't require crew/heavy machinery.

Thank you! Looks like this was resolved as part of the original fix, but it was good to double-check.
