Mission/battle variety?

A thought occurred to me - would it be possible to trigger specific battles/missions, with specific objectives and multiple sides?
Not sure if this goes into modding question because it's applicable to everything.

I am also thinking of factions giving you some more specific missions (with comissions), like:
- protect ship X (allied) against enemies (battle in progress)
- escort fleet/convoy to destination
- Infiltration (bring X marines to specific planet)

- relies on explicitly too gamey mechanics (spawn battle as player approaches, freeze it's state to give player time to join, ensure target is save-able). I'd really prefer Starsector to evolve in more simulation-like ways instead.
- possible, but escorting a slow (it's not going to have 20 speed, right?) convoy is likely to involve ton of wasted player time.
- procurement mission under other name.

For the first I was thinking more like what happens with derelict probes.

The battle start when you reach the destination.
For example, two fleet are holding orbit around a contested planet. Two pirate groups start a fight from a bar, etc..
Basically, if something triggers while you're in a bar, you can hadwave it as "you were in the bar for X hours"

I want to see a type of bouy building mission, where the faction tasks the player to build bouys in remote locations, to prepare a distant star system for colonization or sth.

Rather than a classic escort mission, I could see a mission where you are given intel about the time/location of an ambush and asked to go and protect the fleet at that specific time, that way you don't have to follow the fleet around and defend against waves of fleets and such, you just have to show up at the right time to stop one big attack.

You could also potentially add an escort battle type, where your goal is to get one allied ship to retreat out the other side of the map.
