how to optimize stealing ships?
« on: May 28, 2020, 07:44:58 AM »

hi. on my current run I try to get ships without buying it.
(I will max out industry. no carriers)
how to get better chance to get ships after the battle?
is there a way to kill softly?
I heard reaper makes too big holes and you will get dust instead of a ship  :o

btw. I have luddic church commission now(my first).so TT will be my target  8)

do I need salvage gantry?

I think the industry skills are the only things that effect recovery chance and that there isn't any way to kill 'softly'.  I don't normally take salvage gantries to help with ship salvage, though I take shepherds for exploration.

The ships you drop are selected randonly from the disabled poll, unless the ship has reinforced bulkheads, then even if the ship is on the destroyed poll, it will have a high chance to drop, you also need hold fire on the disabled/destroyed ship hull, since that can add more D-mods on a ship, salvage gantry is not needed, but it increases the salvage you get from the ships you did not salvage.

Will not work.

Sounds like a mod suggestion. Like low-powered weapon, that disable a target, but remain it mostly intact.

A ship that broke apart is considered destroyed, it is not salvageble if it has no reinforced bulkheads, it will increase the D-mod amount for a ship that has reinforced bulkhads, you don't want a ship to break, so don't shot a disabled ship hull

If I recall correctly, there is nothing the player can do that changes the outcome of whether a ship or disabled or destroyed. I want to say that the game rolls the RNG chance when they enter the battle space. So whether you kill a ship with a Vulcan or a Reaper, its fate was predetermined before the battle began. I only vaguely remember this because Alex didn't wan't people trying to game the disable/destroy mechanic. Maybe it was in a blog post or the discussion thereof (but someone correct me if I'm wrong).

A destroyed ship will have more D-mods if it is recoverable, and the recovery mechanic is also RNG. So, long story short, it's luck of the draw with the player being able to tip it a little via Industry skills so that they have, overall, a few more choices at recovery.

If you want to recover ships, you do not want to be near or at the fleet cap.  If fleet cap is set at thirty ships and you have twenty-nine, you will be offered only one ship at most to recover.  The rest will be lost.

Megas is right. You can only have a combined 30 ships in your fleet and on the table for salvage. Try to run around 25 ships.

That bug is fixed for the next major release.

Yes, I forgot about that. I actually raised my own fleet cap to avoid the bug, though I don't play over 30 ships to keep to the spirit of the mechanic.

I wasn't aware of this, but oh thank you Jesus Alex. I scrapped every Legion XIV in my first playthrough as a result of not realizing this.
