The most infuriating omission
« on: January 27, 2019, 10:02:59 PM »

Okay, I am going to try and calm down from this issue.

Because it's really dumb, and shouldn't be left out.

Autosave. This game needs an autosave.

I had a paragraph explaining how every game for the last decade has had some form of autosave.

NOT having one is a design flaw that essentially ruins games like this.

Please fix this omission before I lose my cool.

If you use mods, autosave is not recommended at all as it can take a while to save, even with 4gb of allocated memory.

Also, if you autosave at the wrong time without a backup, you can end up ruining your save. Tapping F5 once in a while isn't really hard.

Any autosave needs to be an opt-in option.  I am too old-school to want autosave.  I want the game to save only when I tell it to.

The reason why autosave likely isn't included is due to how it can interrupt anything you're doing with a potentially long save. Not to mention during 0.8 there was an issue with a memory leak in-game that would sometimes cause it to crash and corrupt the save file if you saved while playing the game for too long. Thankfully though, the game automatically does backup the previous save.

I don't personally use it, but I do like that the autosave mod has an opt-in autosave option on it and by default will only remind you to save and how long its been/what you've done since you last saved.
