Okay I don't actually know if this is a "bug" or a suggestion because I don't know if this is intended behavior or not, but: When you recover a ship found as a derelict (don't know if this happens with ships recovered immediately after winning a battle, didn't check  ), it gets automatically rechristened ISS <name>

This is fine if it's intended behavior but I'd like at least the option to keep its original name, i.e. the TTS <tritachyon name> or the HSS <hegemony name>, et cetera

+1 to this, bringing back a ship from the dead always feels good.

Recovering a ship immediately after winning a battle will keep that ship's name.  I've lost and recovered the same ship about a dozen times with the same name remaining (I named her the "Baphomet", I don't think that's a name the game can pick?).

I can't say I've experienced this "bug" yet.  I've lost a few ships and recovered them as a floating derelict after returning to the campaign view, but I remember they've always kept the same name.  Granted that was a modded game, so it might not apply to vanilla for some reason.

IIRC some derelicts out there are so damaged that their name is irretrievable, and they get re-named. You should see something like <name unknown> when you interact with them.
