Favorite Loadout for Medusa
« on: February 25, 2012, 09:11:24 AM »

I love the medusa, but I have a hard time figuring out what is the best loadout for it. Anyone have a favorite loadout?

At least 2 antimatter cannons, I've had up to 4 on a single medusa. I absolutely adore them, and if fitted on turrets  with the +200 laser range hull mod they become incredible at taking out fast frigates / destroyers. However you need to stick close to support crafts because lots of fighters can be very problematic. it is quite tailored for a specific job though

I'm fond of this build:

5 PD lasers (the short range 75 dps versions), 2 Graviton beams, and 2 Light Mortars on the universal slots. Then add Augmented Engines so you're fast, Hardened Shields so you're even more difficult to overload, and Advanced Optics gives you a lot more range on the PD lasers and makes the graviton beams very long range.

You don't have the front end damage of antimatter blasters, but with all the 75 DPS PD lasers and 100 DPS graviton beams you can shred enemy fighters - and with your speed and maneuverability combined with the intense PD laser coverage you won't have anything to worry about from missiles. For most larger ships you can move into range of your PD lasers (which is 525 thanks to advanced optics) and down their shields with that, then a bit closer and your mortars can start pelting them for a bit of extra oomph vs their armor.

All your guns are extremely energy efficient, as is your shield, so you can wear down just about anything given a little time. It's the perfect build against carrier groups, as you can take their entire bomber and fighter force at once and then move in for the kill on the carriers after disposing of their escort.

I hate the small shield arc on the Medusa and while it has good speed for a destroyer, you can't run from most fighters and frigates which means you're usually under constant pressure (something I feel the Medusa is not good at, in part because of the small shield).

I'm trying to find a good setup for it myself.

I have played with a bunch. Current favorite is two heavy blasters, 3 lr pd lasers, maxed (20) vents and caps, and expanded shields.

It kicks like a cruiser, but runs like a frigate. It's awesome.

Oh, make sure the heavy blasters are alternating. It's a small change but it helps to sustain fire longer.

5 scatter PD laser ( junk pirates mod) 2 IR pulse lasers in the universals and 2 pulse lasers in the medium slots and extended shields, i find this is good enough to destroy anything i've gone against, haven't seen a capital ship short of the Astral and even it fell before my mighty melting lasers :D like seriously this just melts everything shields, armor destroyers, cruisers. and it works great against fighters too! And the extended shields are extremely handy at keeping fighters in check until they burst into fire. Oh and did i mention that all the lasers are Christmas colored too? red and green lasers all day everyday.

When you can't go on, just accept your doom. It comes to all, it is inevitable.

Also I totally had the name BEFORE the cruiser.

2x heavy blasters, 5xLR PD laser, swap the missiles for 2 light needlers for overloading shields quickly

10 vents, 4 capacitors

i have advance turret gyros but that's just preference, since most of the ship's weapons are turrets and it helps the PD lasers keeping on fast missiles like salamanders.

On the two front slots I put Rail guns, with AM in the two turrets, and everything else is tactical lasers.  Put the rest of your points into Integrated targeting, and vents.

Alternately, put AM in the two front, Pulse lasers in the turrets and tactical lasers on the rest, put everything into vents/cap.

Although if you want the AI to pilot it, I'd use the standard assault load out.
