Other than qwerty keyboards

Hello,

I run Linux, and i have a TypeMatrix bépo french keyboard (kind of dvorak).
In other games, i simply switch layout to US or FR while i play, and it's done in 2 seconds without trouble.

However, Starsector still reads my keyboard as a bépo keyboard.

Why ?

Is there anythink i can do, beside change all the keys manually ?

Friends of mine have the same issue with more conventional setups : Windows and standard french azerty, so it seems it's not "me", but "the game". Still no idea what could be done ?

Been meaning to look a this, sorry about the lack of reply.

I don't think this is something I can deal with easily - my current understanding is I'd have to provide a separate set of keybindings for different keyboard layouts.

That is, when you press Q, the game is going to read that as a Q regardless of what the keyboard layout is. When you *type* the letter Q, *that* is layout-dependent, but "detecting a key press" is different in this regard than "detecting a character being typed".

Why only this game reacts like this ? All other (unless i forgot) i've played (hundreds), i can switch layout.

Not sure, really. Could be down to the input API that's used. Could be that if you're talking about bigger games, they have explicit hardcoded support for various layouts. Could be a bit of either.
