High Quality Fleet Focus Skills
« on: May 02, 2017, 05:54:35 AM »

Since we've now got skills that encourage a fleet composed of D-grade wrecks, how about a skill (or multiple) that benefit ships that don't have D-Grade mods? Something along the lines of "Maximized Performance" - pristine ship gains % bonus OP, pristine ship gains % bonus top speed, etc.

Could even attach it to existing Tech skills like the one that gives 10% extra OP, by having it give double benefit to ships in perfect condition.

Mh, why? Seems to me there's already plenty motivation to use pristine ships.

The game was completed 8 years ago and we get a free expansion every year.

Arranging holidays in an embrace with the Starsector is priceless.

Is there though? With all the D-grade skills, the penalties are so small and the benefits so large they stop being a downside and start being an advantage (to the point where you could start intentionally blowing up your non-combat ships to accumulate those juicy maintenance reducing D-mods). Which is good, don't get me wrong. Being able to build a character for junk fleet and have it be top tier is good. But the opposite isn't the case.

By speccing into benefiting more from D-mod ships you're robbing yourself in other areas from skills that benefit all of the ships, d-mod or not. And some of those skills are pretty substantial and powerful honestly.

We just got rid of most of the fleet-wide bonuses, and it did the gameplay a world of good. I'm sure you mean well, but pristine ships are already better in everything but supply cost.

But half the advantage of D - ships is the reduced maintenance once you get the skills. I find that deployment costs aren't that important since you can deploy smart. Maintenance you have to pay regardless, you have to pay a lot once you have a big fleet.

You only need to put two skill-points in leadership to flat out reduce maintenance by 50% for your pristine fleet.  You need to put a lot into scavenging to make a D fleet viable, and even then they will cost more to maintain without the leadership skill.
