Thoughts on the Colossus.
« on: April 23, 2017, 08:54:32 PM »

its instantly become my go-to freighter for larger fleets, I absolutely value its no being a civilian-grade hull perhaps more than I should. Now I just want a similar tanker.

I have one in my fleet too. It's got something like 300 more capacity, can carry tons more crew and consumes 1 fuel less per LY than TWO Buffalo combined! Yes it is 2 Burn slower but with the advent of Sustained Burn, that doesn't matter as much anymore.

So yeah, before I found it, I was rolling with 3 Buffalo (A) but now I've retired 2 of them and yet gained the above mentioned goodies.

I will say it has super anemic OP though...like, is that an error or something? Phaetons, destroyer-sized tankers, have more OP than it does!

I think it's just another hanger-queen ship that we'll buy for stats and never see in-game unless we're pirates chasing down merchants.  Which is too bad, as it looks cool.

It feels like it could be a cargo-first Venture, able to fight a bit, but it's not, unfortunately.  Needs about 40-50 more OPs.

Well, yea, it's a flying brick-frieghter.  It's not like you see Buffalos, Tarsuses, or Atlases outside of raiding merchants.  Not really bad.

Colossus is good as replacement for 3 buffalos supplies-wise. Also you can install surveying equipment on it and get 20 points cruiser grade bonus.

I've always sought out Apogees for fleet logistics, they have huge cargo capacity for a combat cruiser (300 - Colossus, a dedicated freighter of equal size, has 900)

It looks like it could replace the Atlas for burn speed if Sustained Burn did not make slow burn speed meaningless.  I am fine with that because I would ignore too many otherwise good ships due to normally poor burn speed alone (such as Venture in 0.7x).  So the choice boils down to if player can afford the fuel for Atlas.  If not, Colossus looks good.  Otherwise, Atlas.

Not just fuel efficiency; the change to sensor mechanics puts the Colossus ahead of the Atlas too.

The increased fleet size needed for Colossi is somewhat offset by the increased fleet size cap too.

Best freighter in 0.8 IMO.
