Safety Override vs. Range
« on: April 13, 2017, 09:30:41 AM »

Last night I slapped safety override on an Eagle, and I loved it. However, how does the range malus factor in? Would ITU or the gunner perk be totally canceled out, or would there still be a noticeable increase in range?

Any range over 450 units is cut down by 75%. So a 650 range gun would only have 500 range. I don't know how it works with ITU though

I think (???) that positive buffs add and negative debuffs multiply? But that is for global things like turn rate, speed, etc. I have no idea how it works for (range over 450).

I'm not actually certain on the mechanics, but my experience has been that ITU + SO doesn't seem to make much of a difference, while the gunnery perk on top of SO does.

Advanced Optics + SO works out, because it's a flat bonus.

Any range beyond 450, regardless of where it came from or if it's flat/%/multiplier, gets multiplied by 0.25.

In other words, first it calculates the normal range, and then, if range is above 450:

range = 450 + (range - 450) * 0.25

Ok, so heavy blasters on the SO will have range:

No ITU
450 + 150*.25 = 487.5

ITU
450 + 330*.25 = 532.5

It might be worth it? On an Eagle those mounts are so far back that 50 extra range could make the difference.
