Possibility of Donations?

Dear creators,

I have not had such fun with a game since playing Starcontrol 1 & Starcontrol 2 with my best friends and siblings. That was a looong time ago (in a galaxy far, far away...)  :)

Having already had more fun with this game that 10$ could ever pay for and in anticipation of more great things to come, I would like to pay another 10$.

Now it just came to me that I could do this by buying another version of the game and giving it to one of my friends, but it would also be nice to be able to donate directly to the project.

I don´t know whether that is feasible, but I saw another visitor suggest such a thing (partly in joke) in the blog-comments and I thought I would ask in earnest.

i was about to start the same topic...

How much $$$ do the developer need to switch to full time developing?

This game is like a miracle :D. Im having so much fun with the second preview version 0.34a that most current full price games are just a pure joke compared to it :D

Seriously, this game is like 30% feature complete and i allmost feel sick when i think about the low price. Please rename yourself to Fractal Softgods

How about this?

Instead of just sending the devs extra money, you could buy an extra copy or two to give away. If none of your closer friends want it, you could have a little contest on your favorite forum with Starfarer copies as the prizes. Even something as simple as using Random.org to choose a random winner.

I think that would make your money go even further: it spreads the word, grabs attention and interest (who doesn't want a free game?), and increases the playerbase. All at once!

Just my opinion, anyway. I've been thinking about this, too!

Increasing the playerbase is a great idea. That would do far more for the developer than a straight donation.

Thank you guys! I really, really appreciate your support - it means more to me than I can easily express with words :) Reading this thread just blows me away.

Spreading the word is incredibly helpful - so much of the publicity that we've gotten so far is from word of mouth, as we haven't done a concerted push to raise awareness.


I've actually quit my full-time job to focus on Starfarer - last day is this Friday. From a financial standpoint, it's a bit premature and I'll have to break open the piggy bank. Just the same, I'm very excited about finally working on it full-time. Thank you again for your support, and the reception you've given to Starfarer - it's played a large role in my decision.

Wow, full time! That's incredible and very exciting.

We (fans) will do what we can to help you reach the success you guys deserve. You really have a magic formula here: great game, nice developers that interact with their fans, and an early buildup of goodwill. The perfect storm?  :)
