a look into missions I'm working on
« on: May 29, 2011, 06:24:41 PM »

I've got a set of 3 more missions I'm currently working on:

Showdown - easy to medium - a very simple one-on-one onslaught battle. Currently working on making it a bit more challenging based on variants, as its very easy right now. Mostly just for some pew-pew-pew *aslosion* filled goodness.

Brief: kill the traitor onslaught with your own.

Pirate raid - medium - mostly done to show off the atlas 2 carrier, and the buffalo (vanilla ship), which is not currently in any of the stock missions. Also has an anvil.

Brief: take the role of the pirates and stop the escaping freighters and escorts.

Safe Passage - impossible - another escape mission (like the original impossible mission); this mission shows off the anvil in both variants, the vigilance in all 3 variants, the brawler, and the phoenix... not to mention another appearance by the David Hasslenaught- I mean the modern Onslaught from the mission 'survival'. (Along with a whole bunch of other, older, Onslaughts).

Brief: take command of the TTS Pandora (Astral class elite carrier) & ESS Phoenix (Phoenix class assault monitor) and their respective escorts (frigates and fighters), and escape from the massive hegemony forces.

-----

Also, if anyone has any suggestions for missions they'd like to see, I'd be quite willing to look into those as well!

How about just a straight up carrier battle?

The battle station is not completely operational, shall we say.

"Now witness the firepower of this thoroughly buggy and unoperational batt... Oh, hell, you know what? Just ignore the battle station, okay?"

mmm, never really considered it as I only recently made the atlas 2, and prior to that the only big carrier was the Astral: I suppose I can do a pirate vs. tri-tach carrier battle!

Looking forward to playing these!

You might run into trouble with the mission where the AI escapes - the admiral AI doesn't know about doing that, yet. I'll try to hack something in, however it might not get a whole lot of testing unless I also do one of those types of missions for 0.34a :)

Actually, it works pretty well, the combat ships do get distracted a bit more than is optimal, but it does have its ships retreat.

If you mean strategising while retreating... well, that would show why its just a medium (the enemy escorts have some cruisers, but aren't utilizing them terribly effectively. If they did protect them from bombing runs, they would probably be credible threats, but they seem to like to wander off alone where I can hunt them down.)

Hmm, interesting - sounds like it's working better than I thought.

The problem right now is it makes no distinction between a military ship and a freighter. The freighters function as very poor and easily intimidated military ships, instead of trying to head for the edge of the map. It also won't order retreats when would be appropriate - the ship would have to be pretty damaged, or the remaining forces very outnumbered.

And then there's the (lack of) strategizing. It's just using the same AI, not meant for an "escape" scenario...

Hmmm... that would explain why it sent an Atlas to try to capture an objective...

Ok, I have added the preliminary versions of an apogee & a carrier battle mission

The latter needs a huge amount of tweaking though.
