A bit more lively AI after battle
« on: March 12, 2016, 12:11:06 PM »

A really minor detail, but whatever: When the last opponent is gone from a fight, your AI ships celebrate their victory by ...coming to a full stop. And staying motionless. I mean, it's just those 5 seconds before the screen blends out, but it looks really artificial and doesn't help the illusion of real characters piloting alongside you.

I'm thinking, if its an easy thing to do, why not have them do some human things, e.g. fly around a bit more, return to your side of the map, do a victory spin or shoot at emty space? It would give them just that tad more character.

Target nearby asteroid!

I find myself doing that all the time.

Also, activate burn drive, launch off a salvo of missiles, troll a nearby friendly with shield bumping.

I like them staying put and not getting into trouble.

I second that. They're a bit daft at times, with their pathing. So the less they move, the better lol.

I like this idea, but on moments where they are heavily damaged I would rather have them stay put so they dont get themselves killed

Edit: the way they behave at the end of the battle could be influenced by officers
example: Timid officers would stay put.
Aggressive officers will shoot at empty space or asteroids.

Ofcourse they probably should all stay put when the battle was pretty intense

Anyway just my 2 cents

All ships escort nearest larger class of ship.

Now that makes them seem like they are doing the reasonable thing.

I would like them start spinning and wildly firing all of their remaining munitions  ;D

I like the idea of this tying into officer personality. That one aggressive officer that always does an insane victory lap while firing at empty space~

If we get this, I want to space crew and officers that misbehave when I do not want them to act up.

Sometimes, I put my flagship on autopilot at the end of battle so that it stops and not get into trouble.

*imagines an Enforcer with an aggressive officer spinning around firing Reapers at "empty" space *
