From the sounds of this post, phase ships are gonna be useless to potato using players like myself thanks to the time slow...

The time slow only happens if the phase ship is being used by the player iirc.

It does but still makes it pretty worthless...

If you're flying the phase ship, then if anything its better because the AI is running at 1/3 the speed.

If you're not flying the phase ship, their number is generally so low that I doubt you'll notice a difference, no matter how tuber-like your rig is.

Except that one SS+ IBB bounty that's like 14 unique mod-phase ships, and I think that one will need some changes lol.

You mean in terms of performance? (as in total fps and such)

And damn, bullet time phase cloak is going to be fun.

Shouldn't make much difference performance-wise, really - about the same as one extra ship being in the battle, I'd say, give or take.

All this time flow alteration effects would make weapons with long cool-downs benefit from phasing in and out because they'd re-arm faster (at best 3x faster +2 seconds). It would make those Antimatter Blaster shots even scarier.

Edit: So a fleet composed primarily of phase ships would have serious performance issues in combat? I play on a potato as well, after all.

Edit #2: Camping on the top of the map and then using Interdictor Array on the incoming ships should produce interesting results. Those burn drives suddenly becoming lopsided would cause chaos and havoc. Haha. Can't wait for the  new update. Also, can we have those patch notes already?

Not too much. I'd imagine they're not all going to be phased at once most of the time, and the extra load (when phased) isn't more than an extra ship being in play, and less in some ways.

can we have those patch notes already?

Soon(tm) :)

Will there be a visual indicator on the targeted ship for the new ship systems? It can be hard to keep track of everything in larger battles, and your engines being disabled with no indicator could easily be mistaken for something else in a good deal of circumstances.

Missed this earlier - yeah, there are custom visuals and floating text for all these. Some of these also add a "status" item (above left side of ship widget) on the target, detailing the effect.

That new mechanic is nice and should indeed make phase ships interesting but.... That slow down time when phased will ruin every single one of my animations (T____T) (and probably a few other scripted weapon that use a lot of effects)

Sound like excellent improvements.

Also, depending upon how it's implemented, that 1/3 timescale for phase ships might really screw with my deterministic lockstep MP model.

Those are some pretty awesome changes!! I've always felt phase ships to be more like a horse fly, just annoying and hard to get rid of. Now it seems they will have some danger associated with them.....exciting!

I hoped phasing made my ship faster, not cause "bullet time" and slow the AI.  Ships are rather slow already.  Of course, not everyone wants to play twitch shmup.

Now that I think about it, that mechanic was put in before the rest of the changes and probably doesn't make as much sense as it once did. Let me change it so that it's based on flux levels instead of picking a specific weapon - this makes more sense, and also means that it'll stop doing that as soon as it starts more dedicated firing at another target.
yay! \o/

But, you know, a capital ship moving at 3x the normal speed isn't necessarily anything to write home about if that base speed is, like, 20 or so. In that case, it'd actually be going slower than it would be with its zero-flux boost.
that's true.. but 20 is very slow, even the Onslaught has 25. a high-tech battlecruiser with a base of 40-50 would be pretty crazy, and still in line with the Conquest and Odyssey.

a frigate with 3 times normal speed would probably be pretty hard to control well. and slowing outside time should also make it feel more unique, since there are already many active systems that allow teleporting or moving at much higher speeds. personally, i expect i'll have a ton of fun with Harbinger or Doom flagships. :]
