Fleet Commands System
« on: January 21, 2016, 03:09:42 PM »

Its unwieldy and nonsensical.  When you issue a waypoint and turn it into  a rally point, ships should proceed to move to it and NOT move out of that square. I dont want them to engage targets and move off of it, i want them to Rally there for incomming missile ordnance/received fighters or to launch missiles from. Also, the Defend command needs its response range halved, the or even the same leash that that the escort command has. Fix a point in the center of your waypoint that counts as a "ship" and have the assigned task force defend that ship with the escort command...i dont need them to defend half the map but only maybe a  3-5 square radius around that point.

Its the most frustrating system in starsector by far and needs a complete overhaul.

All I'm gonna say is that this is NOT an RTS game where you're ships are gonna follow your movement orders to a T. The command system is intentionally "free form" rather than exacting click-here-do-this-now that you'll find in a game like Starcraft.

If you could tell every single ship exactly where to move and what to do then the game would be spent in the command screen rather than piloting your ship. I don't want that.

Just like Dri says. You are commanding a fleet of AI controlled ships, and they are aware of combat situations. Would it not be frustrating, if you rallied a carrier to a way-point and it refused to move and was surrounded by enemy ships because of that command? Instead, it retreats back and stays away from the enemy, as it should. [ depending on the officer you have assigned ]

I could understand that if I wasnt spending command points that i cant easily get back. Theres no comms relay on every map. Once im out of command points Im fully aware that ships are on there own. Thats not the point.
