In an open-world sandbox type game that still has a storyline-driven series of quests it's always an issue for the player knowing when "the main game" is over. The Fallout series comes to mind for instance. Once the "main story" is done the player is essentially given the clear message that it is, indeed finished, but they can obviously continue playing if they so choose. Actually I'm not sure F1&2 had that, but I believe F3, New Vegas and F4 did... at any rate for those of us who enjoy the feeling of completing a story we kind of need a big "congratulations" message of some kind to make it clear that the story is indeed finished, and the purely sandbox-y side of the game has begun.

The game isn't complete by quite a bit still and the story specifically has only really been worked on in the last couple of updates. Starsector for a long time had basically no story and was just a combat simulator/sandbox.

Oh! Okay then. Well frankly I'm impressed. The writing is so solid it seemed to me that the story being built into the game was part of its DNA rather than being a recent add-on.
