Pirate Relations?

Is there a downside to non-hostile relations to pirates? I know that if you're not hostile to the LP they'll be able to supply terrorist cells in your colony without being attacked, but is there something like that for pirates?

You can't do bounties, or at least, can't do lots of bounties. Also pirates will send trade fleets, and sometimes those trade fleets will fight other faction trade fleets and cause shortages, which is annoying, but in general, there aren't any serious downside right now. I think that could change in the future though.

I'm pretty sure the LP cells don't have any complicated supply mechanics, they just pop up if there's too much stuff (AI cores, technological industries etc.) in your colony, and they are associated with some LP base that you can destroy to knock them out for a while. Also, I don't think there's really any significance to the LP because all their terrorist cell events are bugged to always fail right now, so you can just ignore them completely.

LP really shouldn't bother you if you are on good terms with them. I mean they let LC slide when they do all the stuff that they claim to be against.

Currently, I noticed two drawbacks/bugs related to being friendly to pirates:
-You still need to engage your transponder when joining a fight to help pirates, which is kind of silly since most of the time you don't want anyone to know you are in a core system.
-There is a bug (I guess) that when an alarm is transmitted while salvaging stuff make the pirate fleet still chasing you even if you're in good relationship with them.

However, playing a pirate-aligned game is one of the most rewarding regarding IMHO, the start is tricky and engaging, and its quite nice to help pirate by giving them new blueprint, nanoforge and helping their supplies problems, finally seing them bulldozing the core worlds with hightech ships and true dedicated warships.

If I want to attempt total sector colonization, after total core kill, I need to deal with pirates, since they are the only immortal faction that can cause pain.  (Pathers are bugged and helpless.)  If being friendly with them means they do not send raids, then I should be friends with them so that all babysitting is eliminated, and I can spend 100% time exploring and grinding Ordos for the alpha cores needed to colonize every planet.

Please include me in your will, for we shall never here from you again once you begin walking this path.
