I'd like to change built in S-mods
« on: June 29, 2023, 02:37:40 AM »

As far I know, it is not possible to change any S-mods. This is especially problematic on unique ships like the Ziggurat. I would like an option for this to be possible.

It is possible to change s-mods, but it involves double respec and losing third s-mods for all ships.  For me who took no Leadership, that costs me two story points, once to respec into BotB to get third hullmod and another to respec build into my Combat/Tech/Industry build to remove the third unwanted s-mod from Zigggurat.  Of course, just about every build I see posted has a Leadership capstone, usually BotB, and respeccing out of BotB will cause so many third s-mods to disappear from everything, and ships not in the fleet do not get to choose which s-mods get dropped.

I would like an easier way to change s-mods because respeccing twice is annoying hoop-jumping.

Alex, PLEASE give us a way to change out S-Mods, especially because not having the ability to do so will encourage people to not use them until the endgame when the "optimal" build becomes clear.

In 0.95.1a it was changed such that if you scrap or have a ship with s-mods destroyed, you gain bonus XP equal to story points spent on the s-mods.  And then in 0.96, at max level your XP gain is quadrupled instead of double when you have bonus XP.  Which means it gets returned very quickly.

Now that may not be clearly communicated to the player, but if I want to spend s-mods on early game ships or builds, I see no reason not to. I just scrap them in mid- or end-game, replace the hull, and earn them back in a few fights.

The only vanilla ship that doesn't really work for is the Ziggurat.

The only vanilla ship that doesn't really work for is the Ziggurat.
It also does not work well for ships that are impossible to buy or build yourself if I am only interested in pristine ships.  I will always get d-modded ships from the enemy (Ordos or Lion's Guard) if I recover the ships, and in case of LG ships, I must Restore them to remove the birth defects Hull Restoration is incapable of removing.

Also, even if I can build the ship, I do not like scuttling something that costs about a half a million credits to build and take more than a month if production limit is not high enough, though I guess it beats losing at least two story points without refund.

ahw man I necro this thread because it's still relevant; I just found out that you're not able to remove a S-mod and it's kinda annoying ;_;

This only matters in vanilla on the Ziggurat, since you can always replace other ships. Best way to do this is to edit campaign.xml directly.
