Removing Vanilla Factions

Hi all,
I am trying to see if there's a way to remove the vanilla factions from the game.
I was looking to do a game with the Star Trek Mod or maybe the Star Wars mod without any core worlds being claimed or home to any base game factions.

I did some searching on the forums and google and couldn't find any solutions. Some said Nexerelin had an option, one that I couldn't seem to find. Others suggested editing config files, but I couldn't find any direct, simple approach for that.

Hopefully someone here sees my post and has a solution that could help me out.

Edit: if there's strings in the config file I can delete to stop a faction from spawning, please post them :)

You can turn off factions when starting a game on nexerelin, you need to turn on random core though and have at least one faction enabled. There will probably be some missing commodities in the sector at the start though, expect fuel and maybe supplies to be expensive.
