Suggestions / Re: Officer Behavior

If I might suggest one more:

Careerist: An officer with designs on one day commanding his own fleet, one who views everything in the prism of career benefit versus risk. Will act cautiously in battle, except when he notes an opportunity to finish off an enemy ship.

Yayyyyy!

I really can't.

welcome to the internet. have fun. ;D

That's a little nihilistic. And the implication is false. Just because the internet is stupid doesn't mean you, this forum, or the people you choose to associate with have to be.

5
I'm not offended. I think the whole thing is stupid. I think the person who posted the initial comment was stupid. I think the people who thought they could one up him afterwards was stupid. I think the reposting of the thread here was also stupid, and now I'm pretty sure I'm being dumber by trying to break down the reasons why to people that probably don't care. But who am I if not a dumb Marine on the internet.

I don't care about them, I claim no kinship with their actions since I'm an atheistic agnostic as well. But people make me look bad when they go off acting like their *edited for content* because they have no belief in god.

Language, please - Alex

Heh, I've got a saying of my own for that.

'Two hands on a rifle are better than two clasped in prayer.'  ;)

I dont understand what you mean

I mean people who are not just content to be atheist, but must also inform everyone in the world that they are atheist. The kind of people who walk into forums and IRC channels brewing for a fight on what they know is a hotbutton issue. People who order their identities around their lack of faith, rather than the positive qualities of being simply rational

9
I hate smug atheists. /r/atheism is a cesspool of masturbatory backslapping amongst mentally juvenile narcissists.

10
I think the comments are more to shut up those overly arrogant types (You know, the "'murica, *** yeah!" stereotype). Any offence intended is to those people I had mentioned before, while the more reasonable of folks can have a good chuckle about it

I can't think of a circumstance where a stupid jingoistic person was shut up by a snide comment contrary to their chosen paradigm. Generally speaking, people like that take that stuff on faith, and there is no reasoning with faith. In fact, presenting someone who holds beliefs like that strongly with a contrary argument is more likely to reinforce their opinions because it makes them self defensive. The University of Michigan did a study on this, so it really does nothing for the 'misguided' one is attempting to correct.

No, what it DOES do is make you feel smarter and cooler than someone else on the internet. Hence what I call, 'preening smugness'.

Any conventional war the US enters (e.g. WWII), the US will be pretty effective.
WWII is definitely debatable - the Ruskies I tell ye.

Sure, I'm sure the world would have been a better place with Western Europe under Stalin.

It is pretty incendiary. I'm feeling a little incensed. Not a lot, but a little. There's nothing objectively incorrect about it, but the intent of the entire thing is annoying.

No country is immune to overreach or defeat, but to feel the need to aggressively rebuke the foolish claim that any country is, is itself an exercise in preening smugness.

Yeahhhhh! Screw America!!!!!!!

The Fedayeen sure did win Iraq!

Yes.

I think calling the Serenity a Hound is giving it far too much credit. The damned thing basically had one light machinegun.

Not to be a party pooper, but isn't this more like a suggestion thread?
