General Discussion / Re: Tactics, anyone?
« on: February 18, 2012, 07:03:49 PM »
Jesus, I don't put elite crewmen in fighters unless they're Xiphos's. They're valuable!

Well, I use Elite pilots because they do very little on my Onslaught, and my Onslaught class would stay Veteran with or without the Elites pilots.

Suggestions / Codex Expansions
« on: February 18, 2012, 06:19:48 PM »
Now I don't know about the rest of you,
but I am both excited and somewhat disappointed by the current content/capabilities of the Codex.
I love the ability to look at specific weapons/hulls and see all the little stats about them,
along with some interesting lore. However,
I am wondering if it is possible to show two or even three Codex entries side-by-side in order to see their stats/lore/etc.
Additionally, I propose two new sections in the Codex,
one for Factions and another for Systems and their planets.

Thoughts or other related forums/ideas?

General Discussion / What do good relations get you?
« on: February 18, 2012, 05:30:27 PM »
I ask the above question primarily because I am too lazy/scared to go find the proper value in my profile and edit it.

Either way, do they give you stuff? Maybe a ship every once in a while?
I think trading ought to give a little bit of a positive relation which whatever faction the station is.

General Discussion / Tactics, anyone?
« on: February 18, 2012, 04:25:34 PM »
All right, I have come up with a ridiculously powerful setup that kills anything and everything in its path.
The Broadsword Brigade.
The ultimate setup that really does kill almost everything. (Haven't tested against mother ships though)

Step 1.  Obtain loads of Broadsword Fighter Wings, and I mean loads.

Step 2.  Make sure you have loads of elite pilots as well, they help.

Step 3.  When entering a battle, select all Broadswords for your fleet, usually between 12-15 total fighters.

Step 4.  Order the Broadswords such that there are enough Broadswords spread over the map to flank from all sides.

Step 5.  Upon seeing enough enemies (2-3 ships, usually frigates/fighter wings), hit SEARCH AND DESTROY.

Step 6.  Select a wing to watch and wait for the fireworks.

Step 7.  ?????

Step 8.  Profit!

Thoughts and/or other tactics?
And as a suggestion to Alex, you might want to fix this unbalanced bit of the game.

General Discussion / Re: @Alex---Ordinance Points?
« on: February 18, 2012, 08:44:28 AM »
This, a thousand times over. For example, the Condor-class carriers,
when captured or bought, they have PILUMS, yes PILUMS.
Those things are level 2 missiles on a level 1 socket!
Originally, I exchanged them for swarmers,
until I realized just exactly how useful these Pilum'd Condors were.
Anybody else have problems like this?

General Discussion / Ship Naming!
« on: February 18, 2012, 08:37:47 AM »
Hey all, just thought I would see who names their ships, if any.
My current naming scheme is small, and I don't have any frigates yet,
but with any luck I can change that soon.
Anyway, here is the list of names (and the theme) along with the hull.

Main Ship, Assault, Dominator (My favorite conqueror at the time of naming)
--- Genghis

Assault, Hammerhead (Asian Conquerors)
--- Timur
--- Atilla

Fire Support, Enforcer (European Conquerors)
--- William
--- Charlemagne
--- Alexander
--- Napoleon

Carrier, Condor (Conquistador)
--- Balboa
--- Nunez
--- Pizzaro
--- Cortez

And that's all. Each of my naming schemes refers to a specific layout of ship,
so I know exactly what I am sending out when I use specific orders.
Credit to my dad for around 1/3 of these, he was my reference for conquerors
because of his knowledge of European and Latin American history.

EDIT: From this point onward, I will list my improved fleet, which I have been improving almost solidly over the past 1-2 days.
I absolutely love midwinter break, anyway, on to the ships!

Assault, Onslaught
--- Genghis

Support Carriers, Venture
--- Cortes
--- Balboa
--- Pizzaro

Balanced, Enforcer
--- Attila
--- Timur
--- Maurya
--- Ashoka

Balanced, Lasher
--- William
--- Napoleon
--- Alexander
--- Charlemagne

Along with a generous compliment of 17 Broadsword wings. :D
Nothing is better than performing the spectacular Broadsword Brigade, which is described in more detail at the post below.

Suggestions / Trade Interactions
« on: February 18, 2012, 08:28:11 AM »
Now if Alex doesn't already have this planned, I would like to see the ability to trade with convoys and independent traders.
I imagine it can't be too difficult, as the convoys would already have some form of weaponry/supplies?
Wouldn't you only have to add the base's interaction to fleets?
that said, your guys' thoughts?

Suggestions / On the topic of mining...
« on: February 17, 2012, 11:29:24 PM »
How about just very quick mining operations from the system screen?
You could only do this if you had mining drones/equipment, etc. etc.
Thoughts?

Suggestions / Longer Notification Queue
« on: February 17, 2012, 11:04:33 PM »
Seriously, this is a major problem for me, as well as the placement.
Whenever I am in the heat of battle, stuff happens fast, and it becomes difficult to keep up.
I suggest a tidied up message queue, along with a more defined stake in the vast swaths of screen.
I really do love being notified of when my ships are fixed up, when supplies come in, etc. etc.
Also, timestamps, along with some sort of hour system for the days to pass.
I know it doesn't make sense in space, but it helps make timing more obvious,
and as a result you can gauge system events more accurately.
One final comment, possibly add system battles as events to the expanded message queue?

That is all I have, so comment and debate away.

EDIT: Holy crap, I just tested the queue by mashing the space bar for pause/unpause, and it goes a long way.
As an edit to my previous idea, how about choosing how long the message stays there, so they fade only after a certain time? (Settings?)

General Discussion / Re: 0.5 feedback
« on: February 17, 2012, 09:37:41 PM »
For those of you worrying about the overpowered-ness of TT,
I would say they actually aren't.
In my game world the two sort of swap,
although when the big cargo convoys come in,
the TT fleets jet off pretty quickly.

General Discussion / Re: Hidden Secrets of the Loadout Masters
« on: February 17, 2012, 09:28:30 PM »
Absolute favorite hull would be the Apogee (with maybe a bigger missile mount, but hey), but that isn't what I'm here for.
Also, for each of my loadouts, vents/capacitors are entirely a matter of preference.

If I had to pick one ship to be my only ship, it would be:
--- Hammerhead ---
- 2 Heavy Maulers
- 2 Harpoon Missiles
- 4 LR PD Lasers (for those pesky fighters)
- Expanded Missile Racks
This thing is absolutely spectacular, and can handle quite a few fighters.

In terms of fleet frigates, I would go with the following:
--- Wolf ---
- 1 Graviton Beam
- 2 Harpoon Missiles
- 3 LR PD Lasers (again, for the fighters)
- Expanded Missile Racks
Again, amazing for just about everything,
but you could probably tweak it as necessary to fit different roles.
The number one problem is the availability of these frigates,
since they are rare and are usually only with Tri-Tachyon, I think.

And as a final note, remember the following:

BROADSWORD FIGHTERS BROADSWORD FIGHTERS

BROADSWORD FIGHTERS BROADSWORD FIGHTERS

BROADSWORD FIGHTERS BROADSWORD FIGHTERS

BROADSWORD FIGHTERS BROADSWORD FIGHTERS

BROADSWORD FIGHTERS BROADSWORD FIGHTERS

BROADSWORD FIGHTERS BROADSWORD FIGHTERS

That is all.
