The reason you can't recover remnant/derelict ships is because they have the UNBOARDABLE tag in the ship_data file, all you have to do is remove it.

I agree that having blueprints drop from a nexus would be neat!

I'm definitely going to disagree with the notion that fighters don't work well against the remnant. I just took out two big red system fleets, one with 2 battleships and 5 cruisers and assorted destroyers/frigates, and the second with 3 battleships and 6 cruisers, using my mighty fleet consisting of.... 17 drovers and 1 sunder. Lost 1 drover against the second fleet, but recovered it.

I actually did pick up an alpha core off of the first fleet, which is the first alpha core I've picked up that wasn't from a ruin or station.

A couple little things:

The textures of fighters and bombers seems to be distorted - like they have severe jpeg artifacts - if they're coming from a ship with converted hangars. I turned off all my mods and this was still the case. The textures are fine from regular carriers.

I've been getting a ton of nebula class ships that I can salvage from debris fields. This might be intentional but it happens constantly, and I'm pretty sure sometimes from fleets that had no nebula class in them although I can't say that for sure.

Berserkers never show up in derelict battles. This one's an easy fix, it's just missing the derelict tag in the ship_data file.

I picked up the first step of this mission (to talk to the pilot) early on in the game and decided to put it off, I didn't realize the pilot I was supposed to talk to was on the same station and thought I was going to go off to find them somewhere in the galaxy. I then came back and destroyed the station later (oops),  a pirate station called ekwarmer station in the Duzahk system, not knowing the person I was supposed to talk to was there. Later I decided to pick up the mission from where I had left off, and at that point the mission continued to point toward the spot in the Duzahk system where the station had been, but if I right clicked on the red planet symbol it would set a waypoint to the center of the sector screen in the middle of hyperspace. It took me a while, and reloading a previous save, to realize what had happened.

Probably the mission should update in the event someone annihilates the station the pilot is on like I did.
