I saw this on the changelog thread, but I liked the idea so much I decided to repost it here, and explain my reasoning.
The feature in itself is this: Ongoing battles should have a big sensor profile (proportional to the fleets involved, for example a battle between 2 frigates probably should have a 50% more profile, while a battle with 100+ ships should have both fleets getting a 500% bigger sensor profile, so they are noticeable anywhere on the realspace).
The reasoning is quite simple: Although the game does not follow correct physics, currently the reason there is no stealth in space, is because is VERY EASY to read energy being emitted, a cellphone on the moon for example can generate a radio signal 10 times bigger than anything on the background, and is easy to notice with current tech...
A battle will have people exploding (imagine the energy released with those explosions that whiteout the screen), missiles being fired (and those are easy to track, for example US knew Russian airliner wasn't killed by a missile, but by a bomb, because they detected only a explosion, and there are no missiles capable of hitting an airliner without leaving a huge trail of electromagnetic emissions), to not say of shields deflecting all those lasers... and VENTING (in real world, ships DO use venting to get rid of heat, when they vent, it shines so brightly on sensors that even a sensor on pluto would detect it).
So, please, battles should attract attention
Specially because this way it gives the player a change to see there is a cool Hegemony vs Tri-Tachyon battle happening somewhere with their whole armadas! Or something like that (by the way, in the current version once I saw the pirate armada, + about 5 pirate big fleets, chasing a merchant, then Hegemony passing navy decided to join, I think the battle had about 200 ships in it, if not more... this was in hyperspace).
