Modding / Can I make starsector output stuff on my IDE?
« on: December 04, 2015, 02:28:01 PM »
I am using the newest IntelliJ IDE guide thing, with some modifications that I felt necessary...

Still, when the IDE launches starsector, I noticed the output window does now show anything at all... can I make it show something? maybe errors, or logs lines are they are written?

I am making a economy mod...

But luddic path raiders keep killing me (when I am playing the game normally they ALSO keep killing me).

And the game keep respawning me on Corvus... But I wanna check prices elsewhere, but I keep dieing and returning to corvus before I even reach a planet elsewhere.

Also it would be ncie if I could move super fast (or teleport!) and if I could make the game itself run super fast (so I can see what the economy will look like after a year for example)

Modding / How I start a .jar mod?
« on: December 03, 2015, 10:54:36 AM »
Well... I found lots of info, like how to setup IntelliJ, API docs, how to do X or Y task, how to draw sprites, how to create a faction mod, how to create a mission using .java files...

But I can't find anywhere how I create my first .jar mod.

So I setup IntelliJ, I found out how to point the json to a jar file... now what? How I create my first java file to be compiled into a .jar file?

Even if the only thing it did was to write a message on the screen I would be happy enough (because it would allow me to know if I setup all my tools and scripts correctly).

Suggestions / Battles should attract attention!
« on: December 02, 2015, 11:27:44 AM »
I saw this on the changelog thread, but I liked the idea so much I decided to repost it here, and explain my reasoning.

The feature in itself is this: Ongoing battles should have a big sensor profile (proportional to the fleets involved, for example a battle between 2 frigates probably should have a 50% more profile, while a battle with 100+ ships should have both fleets getting a 500% bigger sensor profile, so they are noticeable anywhere on the realspace).

The reasoning is quite simple: Although the game does not follow correct physics, currently the reason there is no stealth in space, is because is VERY EASY to read energy being emitted, a cellphone on the moon for example can generate a radio signal 10 times bigger than anything on the background, and is easy to notice with current tech...

A battle will have people exploding (imagine the energy released with those explosions that whiteout the screen), missiles being fired (and those are easy to track, for example US knew Russian airliner wasn't killed by a missile, but by a bomb, because they detected only a explosion, and there are no missiles capable of hitting an airliner without leaving a huge trail of electromagnetic emissions), to not say of shields deflecting all those lasers... and VENTING (in real world, ships DO use venting to get rid of heat, when they vent, it shines so brightly on sensors that even a sensor on pluto would detect it).

So, please, battles should attract attention :)

Specially because this way it gives the player a change to see there is a cool Hegemony vs Tri-Tachyon battle happening somewhere with their whole armadas! Or something like that (by the way, in the current version once I saw the pirate armada, + about 5 pirate big fleets, chasing a merchant, then Hegemony passing navy decided to join, I think the battle had about 200 ships in it, if not more... this was in hyperspace).

I noticed reading the modding forums, and threads all over the place, that you fixed a couple of my gripes with 0.7 (example: you fixed the procurement missions to also ask for metals, organics and other stuff, instead of only organs and drugs), you will make a release with those things, or they will be released only with the next release with new features?

I really like this game combat, it is really, really good.

But, it bothers me that the campaign is not that good, Nexerelin make it much better, but I still don't like the economy, the economic simulator is just bad.

Is it even possible to make a mod to fix it? I have impression you can only change some parameters, and the economy is completely hardcoded and unchangeable.

Suggestions / Alex, pay your portrait artist to make some new ones!
« on: November 22, 2015, 10:42:38 AM »
For a while the current portraits were mostly enough, although I do think they are too few for the player to choose, at least you didn't saw your face too much on enemies and whatnot...

the thing is: now with the new communication interface, where you talk not only to officers but other people, you see the same faces over and over again, I for example see my favourite portrait (the dude with red and green glasses) a lot now.

I know it ins't cheap, I also own a game company, but please, ASAP pay your portrait artist to make some new ones, just to add more variety to the officers :) (and as a bonus, more faces for the players).

Of course, modders can improve this, but the current portraits have really cool art, and rarely a mod can match it (some mods can have art that surpass it, but then things look sort of jarring).

Suggestions / Change colour of allies!
« on: November 20, 2015, 10:29:38 PM »
Seriously, I kept shooting at my allies a couple times because at least on my monitor they look identical to enemies.

I suggest you do like Mechwarrior Online: enemies are red, your lance is cyan, your team is blue (or since your group is already blue, you can change your allies to cyan).

Of course, since dead ships are cyan, those should have another colour (I suggest an almost white gray, or yellow).

General Discussion / Please, make trader missions!
« on: November 20, 2015, 07:01:49 PM »
Ooooh, new version! Finally!

So I download the version, fight Windows a couple times, and after an hour, I am ready to go.

So I create my trader again (so I can see the new systems and whatnot).

Get promptly killed by the luddic people.

Since I jsut started, create new char!

Get to hyperspace!

Luddic people swarm on me, kill me...

New char!

Decide to dock in a random planet that has no station... Wait, what is this comm thing?

Oh, missions! Delivery missions!

Then... wait, wat? All missions, in every single star, in every single planet, in every single station are to deliver illegal goods! I am a trader, not a smuggler! I don't want to trade guns, organs, drugs, and so on!

Oh wait, a mission to deliver supplies, that I can do! But wait, why is it in red? Why there is a red cross in the faction that wants it?

*** this, I will start over as bounty hunter... and make a forum post complaining.
